2010 is a major improvement over the previous year, and generally a nice way to open up the new decade. At this point, electropop has invaded the whole pop landscape, and the crossing over with "electrohouse" has now become the norm. This results in the synths being used much more interesingly with glitchy, euphoric sound building rather than as simple backdrops to ugly drum machine beats like in the previous years.
The chart dominance of hip hop has oddly enough been put to rest for now, with pop rap crossovers being most of the genre's mainstream representatives. And the mainstream days of conventional rock and R&B are now counted. 2010 was the year of a few really shoddy duds but also some of the catchiest, unabashedly sugary pop music ever released.
