Is it too early for me to say 2018-2020? 2018 feels like forever ago.

Is it too early for me to say 2018-2020? 2018 feels like forever ago. Those are the only two years in my lifetime that I'm surprised by. The rest are believable, unless it's something like early 1999 vs Late 2001, but that's closer to 3 years.

Because if we're talking about perceived time passed, even 2013 feels like 2 years ago to me lol.

2018 and 2020 2007 and 2009 2000 and 2002 I'd agree on the first two but less on 2000-02. While 2000 still retained the last vestiges of the 1990s and 9/11 hadn't happened yet, 2002 still had a lot in common with 2000 in other areas. But 2007 and 2009 seemed like different worlds as do 2018 and 2020.

That era of hip-hop began in 1999 and lasted until around 2003 or 04 depending on how you want to define it. Eminem's biggest albums were the Marshall Mathers LP in 2000 and the Eminem Show in 2002. Teen pop was fading in popularity by 2002 but the boy bands were still very much a thing. 2002 was a pretty big year for *NSYNC. Fashion was similar in both years with preppy teen mall stores dominating, though you saw more goth/nu-metal in 2000 than you did in 2002. For me though, everything was about Abercrombie and Fitch, American Eagle, Aeropostale, etc.

I mean obviously aside from the pandemic.

The fashion, music, movies, TV, video games from 2000 & 2002 r similar in my eyes. I was only 1-4 years old from 2000-2002. 2003 is when I noticed a transition. it actually was very different - Gamecube, Xbox and Gameboy advance were all out by 2002 (these did not even exist in 2000) - Teen pop was seen as washed up, here is the charts from May 2000 and May 2002 May 2000 - Eminem Real Slim Shady, Backstreet Boys The One, DMX party up in here, NSYNC gonna be me, Christina I turn to you, Britney Spears OOPSMay 2002 Jimmy Eat World The Middle, Vanessa Carlton Thousand Miles, Nelly Hot in here, Eminem Without me, Michelle Branch all you wanted, Avril Lavigne Complicated^^^^^^^^^^^^ Major ass difference lol - 9/11 had occurred by 2001 and by 2002 we were trying to look fwrd - For Wrestling WCW was dead and Hulk Hogan and HBK both came back to the WWF and even the WWF changed it's name to WWE - in 2000 Toonami was at it's peak while in 2002 Toonami was declining with the Buu Saga ( and yes one show like DBZ can influence the whole block of Cartoon Network lol) - In 2000 Fox Kids was still on the air in 2002 Fox Kids ended being replaced with Fox Box - Low rise jeans started getting popular in 2001 (they were almost non existent in 2000) - Harry Potter and Lord of the rings became house hold names by 2002 - for Sports MJ came back to the NBA in 2001 with the Washington Wizards in 2000 he was retired - in 2000 Sega was console company in 2001 they gave up and became third party

It seems like the transition occurred throughout spring-summer 2001. 😳 😮 I can c where you're coming from. The similarities I'm thinking of between 2000 & 2002 maybe minor or insignificant. 🤷🏽♂️ some of it was yes, but the mood and atmosphere felt different. 2001 the 4th quarter was a huge MATURE vibe with most music going in a more mature direction. Christina started making this direction change earlier in 2001 with Lady Marmalade and Britney did with Slave 4 u later in the year. I was in 8th grade when Fall 2001 kicked off I remember it like it was yesterday it felt VERY different even before 9/11 happened. Yugioh also came out of nowhere and was gunning to replace Pokemon. 2000 and The later half of 2001 are very much apart. 2001 felt like a dirty edgy future vibe. The 2001-2002 school year in specific felt a complete 180 from what 2000 was. 2000 was a long in the tooth year full of lame fads and monotone music that felt like it would never end. 2001 breathed so much damn life into music u have no idea how relaxed and relieved I felt. Music actually sounded......good !

Music actually sounded......good ! I bet! I can say that 2001 & 2002 were gr8 years 4 music, followed by 2004 & 2005. I have more songs from 2001 on my playlist than 2000 which says a lot. I'm not a teen pop kinda guy. It seems overrated, no offense 2 those who like it on here. Didn't the 1st GTA come out in late 2001 4 the PS2? I remember my younger sister playing it years after their release. I've played GTA V. I don't think it was just music that became more adult in 2001, movies, TV, games, fashion & pop culture in general did 2. The 1st Fast & Furious, 1st Shrek, 1st Monsters Inc, 1st Harry Potter. 2001 was the year of firsts hence the number 1 in 2001. 2001 was the 1st year of 2000s culture & the beginning of 2000s cultural movies & gaming. I guess the only thing that 2000 has over 2001 was that it was still a carefree, relaxed, pre-9/11 world. But the Dotcom bubble burst in March 2000 which was a sign of things 2 come with the 2001 recession. Clinton was still president in 2000 (good or bad depending on how u look @ it), although he was probably getting major hate due 2 the sex scandal with Monika Lewinksy. Arguably people were still carefree in the early 2000s with patriotism & conservatism @ an all time high, probably until the Iraq War began on March 20, 2003. I'm sure that tore people apart. I remember my mom trying 2 change the channel that was talking about the Iraq War 2 cartoons or kids channel cuz no mother wants their child 2 c that. GTA III did come out in October 2001. I bought my first ps2 when it came out. It was a HUGE deal lol 2001 is the first real 6th gen year, PS2 did come out in 2000 but hardly had any breathtaking games beyond Tekken Tag. IT wa sa VERY BAD launch lineup lmao by the time 2001 came around towards the end we got GTA III , Max Payne, Final Fantasy X and Smackdown ! Just Bring it ( even tho the story mode SUCKED LOL) more good games came out towards the end of 2001 and the previous gen systems pretty much had nothing to offer at all beyond a Tony Hawk 3 port and annual Madden game. Trust me a lot of things came together in 2001 to make it feel like a debut year of sorts for culture.
