GTA III did come out in October 2001. I bought my first ps2 when it came out. It was a HUGE deal lol 2001 is the first real 6th gen year, PS2 did come out in 2000 but hardly had any breathtaking games beyond Tekken Tag. IT wa sa VERY BAD launch lineup lmao by the time 2001 came around towards the end we got GTA III , Max Payne, Final Fantasy X and Smackdown ! Just Bring it ( even tho the story mode SUCKED LOL) more good games came out towards the end of 2001 and the previous gen systems pretty much had nothing to offer at all beyond a Tony Hawk 3 port and annual Madden game. Trust me a lot of things came together in 2001 to make it feel like a debut year of sorts for culture. Oh damn. How’d u like GTA |||? I bet it was a biggie. 😳 😅 That makes sense 4 2001 2 be the 1st full 6th Gen Year cuz that’s the 1st full year of PS2. PS2 came out in October 2000 I think. Wow. I think most of the games in 2000 was still 4 the PS1 which made it’s debut in November 1994 I think. 🤔 💭 Those sound like wild, rad, kick ass game titles! I bet skater culture was huge in 2001 & 2002 with Tony Hawk Games. I trust u. People say 5th gen died in 2001, which I c & agree with. Gta III was an experience I will never forget like top 10 gaming memories ever. The ps1 in america came out in 95 but didn't catch on until late 96 so by 2000 it had already been out for awhile. 2001 was the end of the barrel for 5th gen systems.

I heard GTA 6 won’t drop till late 2021 or fall 2021. I find it funny that PS1 games can’t be played on PS2, but it can be played on PS3. I got PS1 in the late 2000s from 1 of my family members, PS2 in 2008, PS3 in 2011, PS4 in 2014. Do u have a favorite GTA game? I know another GTA came out in 2004. I guess by 2001, people were ready 4 something new with it being the actual start of the new millennium, 21st century & all. 2001 began on a Monday, which is also the start of a new week 2. 😳 ps1 games can be played on ps2 actually, I did this after I played my second game on it. My second fav has to be Vice City because of the atmosphere and the whole United States stopped with Vice City Fever that week. San Andreas as good as well, it's hard TBH they are all MEGA POWER level games on top tier lol I can't say 1 is better then the other. The Gta games I didn't like were GTA 1 2 (they sucked )and GTA 4 as GTA 4 FAILED to have the same hype as the other games. GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas were topic of discussion in school for weeks and months. Those games are so tied with the 2000s in terms of nostalgia and energy lmao Ask a person what game of the 2000s is your fav and most will say San Andreas or Vice city or Halo 2.

Vice City is definitely my fav PS2 game, I loved San Andreas but I liked Vice City a bit more. I think it's the vibe, awesome soundtrack, the humor/satire, the characters and the more dense map that made me prefer Vice City. San Andreas is still a great game and is a very close 2nd for my top 10 PS2 games. Gta 1 sucked, Gta 2 wasn't actually too bad but, it wasn't good either and not worth coming back to. I really disliked GTA IV when it came out, it felt so dull/boring to me, it was just too dark and didn't have the same charm/spark that Vice City & San Andreas had. I will admit, that GTA IV had a pretty well written story to it and the graphics/physics was definitely more modern but, at the same time it wasn't very fun to play (I only completed it once and never came back). I liked GTA V though as it brought back a lot of things I liked about the GTA series, it's fun/upbeat and doesn't focus too much on being realistic, its graphics/gameplay is also very up to date and modern too. The story for GTA V sucks though, it's just 2 middle aged dudes that meet up and do crime again, one is a psycho and one has family issues, there is also a younger dude who has joined them too (pretty much in a nutshell). I also couldn't stand most of the characters in GTA V either (the main 3 characters and Lamar were alright though), most of the characters just come off as very shallow and unlikable.

To me
-1995 and 1997 (1995 was still predominately a 16-bit year, Windows 95 had just come out and you still had people using Windows 3.1, culture was dominated by Gen X, gangsta rap and alternative rock were the biggest music genres around, whereas by 1997, 3D gaming had taken over, everybody was using Windows 95, the internet was rapidly growing in popularity, millennials were taking over pop culture, and teen pop was the new thing) -2000 and 2002 (2000 was predominately a 5th gen year, people used Windows 98, 2000, and Classic Mac OS, Pokemon was the coolest thing out there, there was optimism for the future, Y2K aesthetics were everywhere, and teen pop was at or near its peak, whereas by 2002, Windows XP was rapidly gaining in popularity, people had moved on to the GameCube, PS2, and Xbox, Classic Mac OS was pronounced dead and Mac OS X replaced it, 9/11 killed off the optimism of the late 90s, the dot-com bubble had burst, teen pop was dead and garage rock revival was in, and McBling aesthetics were already becoming popular) -2005 and 2007 (in 2005, Windows XP was the latest version of Windows that everyone was using and Microsoft was in their prime, people were playing the PS2, GameCube, and Xbox, most people didn't know what YouTube or Facebook was yet, smartphones weren't popular yet, the economy was thriving, and McBling aesthetics were everywhere, whereas in 2007, Windows Vista came out and everybody hated it, the BlackBerry was popular and the iPhone had just come out, Frutiger Aero became the dominant aesthetic everywhere, the materialism of the mid 2000s was receiving sharp backlash as the Great Recession was starting, glam rap was dying off as Kanye defeated 50 Cent in a sales battle, YouTube was so big that Nickelodeon made iCarly, a TV show based off online videos, and Facebook was starting to take off)

Oh yeah, here's another shift between 2005 and 2007 In 2005, when new movies came out, there would be trailers that said "now available on DVD and Video". Whereas in 2007, they'd say "now available on DVD and Blu-Ray".

- 1997 and 1999 - 2009 and 2011 - 2015 and 2017 - 2019 and 2021 2009 and 2011? I feel like that should be more 2010 and 2012 imo, since 2010 was basically 2009 part 2 and 2012 was kinda leading up to 2013.

The second half of 2009 and 2010 and maybe early 2011 is in a crossover transition period like y2k where it doesn't feel like the 00s but also doesn't feel like the 10s.
