Yeah you could sense they became more commonplace than earlier, also touch technology was starting to used more often in stores and kiosks from what I recall around that time. Instagram is overrated anyways. Instagram was cool before but I'm started to think it's going to decline in the next couple of years. They turned an artsy hipster app into a consumerist shopping mall. Reels is also a flop. One way in which 2020 might be considered transitional in the future. I feel like a lot of these social media platforms will be much more corporate in the future. The only problem if covid gets resolved earlier, it will be like the stand alone year with minor transitions or starting points, but kind of empty pop culturally If it doesn’t get resolved and something radically changes as an after effect from covid directly and visibly reshaping pop culture at some point in the next few years then yeah it will the same but with a stronger starting point.

I would say so since 2021 will be the year of COVID vaccines, 9th gen gaming, the effects of the Biden presidency, amongst other probable things.

2020 is a weird year culturally cause it’s obviously transitional in terms of life and politics, but music-wise it’s literally identical to 2018. Like can we at least get a change in music by now? I mean not identical to 2018. Some songs from that year sound a little bit aged now, specifically the first half.

A pandemic and a new president. What's not transitional about that? Also, don't forget new consoles like PS5 and Xbox X. Add to that the worst economic crash in a century. And the near destruction of U.S. democracy. This is more than a cultural shift or a transitional year. 2020 is a year like 1940 or 1860. 50 years from now people will still be talking about 2020.

I don’t think so. From what I’ve seen this past year I’ve seen the pop culture still being the same from last year. Trump is still president even though Biden won the election, trap is still the dominant genre in music, and fashion seems to be the same. I more likely see 2021 being the transitional year.

Idk I mean even just the election alone is enough to make 2020 transitional IMO. We’re leaving the Trump era and getting a new president. It’s more likely the transition will be completed sometime in 2021.

Back to the topic, I think fashion is slowly heading towards 2020s territory. Many girls are wearing Y2K inspired outfits. I feel like you're gonna see this type of fashion more in 2021 and evolve from their on. Also, many boys are sporting perms and curly fringes. Everyone skipped mid to late 90s fashion. We need preppy curtained hair, starter jackets, 90s Afros and jncos jeans to make a serious mainstream comeback first. im all for change. Hopefully it evolves a little more. Slashpop, you're not the only one who noticed that. I noticed that, too. Most likely, the 2030s are going to focus on mid-90s nostalgia. The reason why I said that is because the wave of 90s nostalgia that took place during the 2010s was just the first wave of 90s nostalgia. Judging by how the decade nostalgia cycle works, the second wave of 90s of 90s nostalgia is going to take place during the 2030s (This is similar to how the first of 80s nostalgia took place during the 2000s and the second wave of 80s nostalgia is taking place during this decade. Both of those waves of 80s nostalgia are 10 years apart.).

By the late 90s and early 2000s it was already seriously popping up here and there. People forget the 80s nostagia in the mid 2000s. I get the impression that some people think it started in 2006 or 2008 and then ended in 2012 when it was replace with 90s nostalgia for 8 years to the present and that just isn’t the case.
