What recent school year do you feel is "dated" today in 2020?. What school year has so many trends that are removed from today?
2014-2015: This is the period that feels truly dated from today. Absolutely a different vibe at this point. The last year with 2010s cheese.
2015-2016: It's mostly different but a few aspects are still around today. Last year of the 2010s "classic-ness".
2016-2017: A good number of trends feel removed but also a decent number of aspects still feel recent. I think it has clear differences if you compare it today.
2017-2018: This feels like a cusp of different and recent. I feel like it's sorta "dated" because TikTok wasn't a thing yet but it does feel recent at the same time.

Periods rather than school years in general for me. A lot of things from 2012-2013 and a few things about 2013-2014, but a lot of things from then don’t feel outdated yet but not everything in full case. 2011-2012 is the first fully outdated year.
I don’t find 2014-2015 cheesy or outdated yet, I can still walk into the mall and buy similar or identical clothes. Ads look the same etc

2016-17, or 2015-16. It still looked mid-2010s those years with manbuns and thick framed glasses, hardly any of this Y2K inspired fashion. Although I did see curtain hair (the undercut version of it) and oversized sweaters in 2016, and flared jeans in 2017, but it was only a sign of things to come.

It's also the last full year without Trump's presence in the political atmosphere. The fashion feels kinda dated too with all that hipster junk. I can't think of any aspects from 2013-14 that is relevant today besides smartphones and all that. That and 2012-2013 has the same outdated values as 2011-2012. Anything from 2010-mid 2015 feels so contrasting from today it's pretty obvious. 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 has some differences too these days, just need to squint your eyes

Like, you can look at a picture from 2016 vs today and notice the difference if paying attention (and provided the people are dressed trendy).

Outside of the super trendy things that expired whether in music or fashion or particular trends a lot of what those periods offered is still with us and is still within the same template for looks, tech or similar sounding music, general design trends even though it’s not exactly the same. But 2015-2016 is the first period to be closer. Late 2017-early 2018 is first period to feel different or a bit older.

Trendy outfits in late 2016/early 2017 Trendy outfits in late 2020/possibly more so in early 2021 I don’t get why they skipping the 94/95-97/98 look which nor truly explored and jumping to the Y2K and early 2000s one so early. Then again I can see some traces of it.

I think backward hats was also supposed to be a 90s revival, but I haven't worn my hat like that since the actual 90s so I will refrain from comment. 🤐

2017-2018 still feels kind of dated with cloud rap, Soundcloud rap, etc. being huge. Can't imagine something like "Dark Knight Dummo" by Trippie Red coming out in 2020 or even 2019, sounds very late 2017/early 2018 though.

Anything from 2009/10 to 2013/14 all feel removed from today, so they feel the same way.
2014-2015: Almost completely dated.
2015-2016: Mostly different and approaching to dated.
2016-2017: Clear differences and able to distinguish from today.
2017-2018: Noticeable differences but many things feel recent.
2018-2019: Small differences but still mostly recent.
2019-2020: Feels like yesterday, very recent

I'm assuming we're going by pop culture.
In that case i'd say 2018-2019 school year. Not dated but noticeably different. Last school year when tiktok wasn't the dominant social media for one.

I can safely say that the 2018-2019 school year is starting to look different. TikTok did get a head start but like nightmarefarm said, it wasn’t the top social platform yet. Plus, TikTok had a different vibe at the time.
