2010 is the latest year that I think truly feels like another world now. A lot of things have changed since then. 2011 was basically just like 2010 so I'd count it too. 2012 was when smartphones and social media reached a crazy new level.

honestly, believeable. 2010 feels old. In terms of music, I imagine songs like "Smooth", "Livin' La Vida Loca", and "I Want It That Way" felt just as old as songs like "Dynamite", "TikTok", and "California Gurls" do today. At this point, Baby One More Time, Believe, and Pretty Fly felt as old as Tik Tok, Telephone, and Rude Boy do today. Rude Boy still gets a surprisingly amount of airplay on iHeartRadio Top 40 stations and in clubs compared to Baby One More Time in 2010.

Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr already influenced culture in 2011.

Rude Boy still gets a surprisingly amount of airplay on iHeartRadio Top 40 stations and in clubs compared to Baby One More Time in 2010. I honestly feel like the way pop music sounds in 2021 is not that removed from the early 2010s. Sometimes I have a hard time distinguishing them. I still here plenty hits from the early 2010s wherever I go. They do not sound that out of place next to the current hits. It seems like much less evolution occurred from 2010 to 2021 than from 1999 to 2010. I think it depends on the song. It's interesting because I don't hear much Lady Gaga in 2021 on FM radio period. Not much pre-2017 Justin Bieber either. However, there's plenty of early '10s Rihanna, Beyonce, Jason DeRulo, and Bruno Mars. Rude Boy in particular is still very overplayed on FM Top 40 stations owned by iHeartRadio.

Yes because we saw some extreme changes between 1999 and 2010... Not so much between 2010 and 2021.

2010 is the latest year that I think truly feels like another world now. A lot of things have changed since then. I agree, I would say 2011 up until about Mayish is the last time to feel truly dated (with 2010 being the last full year to be dated).

Another fact that might scare some people: we're closer to 2030 than 2010. This means we're closer in time to 2010 turning 20 than the year itself. Odd isn't it?

It's as old today as August 1997 songs like this were back when it was first released. "Tik Tok" does sound incredibly dated too, but crazy to think at the amount of time it has since passed!

Most of vevo uploads are from 2009, which confuses people into thinking the song came out in 2009. I really hate how vevo is like this. For example that music video was released on MTV in October 1997 , yet someone watching it would think it debuted in 2009.

The "august 2009" part is referring to Tik Tok by Ke$ha. I was comparing how it is now as old as Honey from august 1997 was back then.

2010 is now older than 1999 was back then.
In fact, starting next month January 2010 will be as old as December 1997 was back then.

I seriously can't believe how much time passed now that 2010 is 12 years old. It was only yesterday when I first watched the series premiere of Adventure Time on Cartoon Network, or listened to Taio Cruz, pre-conspiracy nut B.O.B., Rihanna, or Bruno Mars on the radio. It still doesn't feel that old to me.
