In retrospect, Kings of Leon are a pretty interesting band to look back on. They were really the last rock band to breakthrough into the mainstream and make it big internationally.
Seemingly out of nowhere, this bluesy alt-rock band became household names overnight and became the biggest band in music during a time when rock was quickly declining in relevancy. They don't receive enough recognition in that regard. Here in Australia, they were absolutely huge during late 2008 and well into 2009. Their album was the highest selling album of 2008 and was certified 9x Platinum. It was so popular that it finished as the 6th highest-selling album of the entire 2000s decade. "Sex on Fire" topped the charts here, and they also had four other singles that charted within the Top-40.
What are your memories of Kings of Leon from back then? Were they popular in your country, do you like any of their songs?

I remember "Use Somebody" being played to death back in spring 2009ish.
I never really thought much of this band to be fair, but looking back it's nice how they carried influences from the early 00s "post-punk revival" scene.

I've never been much of a fan of "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody" if i'm being totally honest. Not that I think they're bad songs, but the amount of airplay they received during late 2008 and early 2009 kind of ruined them for me. My favourite songs of theirs are actually some of their lesser-known singles, such as "Revelry", "Crawl" and "Closer".
