Isn't drill a subgenre of trap? No, but both are subgenres of Hip Hop. No, 10slover was right. Drill is a violent and gritty style of trap music that came from Chicago and was popularized by Chief Keef. Brooklyn/NY rappers basically mixed the Chicago and UK drill sounds to create their own rap styles with it, and Pop Smoke was at the forefront of it until he was unfortunately murdered. You could be right on the decline of Brooklyn drill, though. But I do hope that it picks up again because I think it has potential to become a cultural mainstay like its main genre of trap.

I just wish '20s music was fresh and new and not a recycled rehash of older genres like we saw a lot of in the 2010s. I wish this decade was more unique musically and had a distinct sound. Something new, fresh, and exciting, but something that is also good.

Most "new" things are fresh takes on the past. Referencing the past in popular art is a universal norm. The difference is people are cashing in on full-blown nostalgia remakes.

This song is blowing up right now.
This definitely sounds like something that only would have come this decade without sounding anything retro. It's a bizarre mix of indie, pop and TikTok-ism. It's actually quite upbeat and less airy and depressing than late 2010s pop. So I would definitely say this represents the early 20s sound best.

It's pretty bad but it does sound uniquely early 20s Also it sounds VERY similar to "Hot Girl Bummer" by Blackbeard, down to the watered down background guitar and lyrics

But HGB has a cold trap beat, airy drone stuff in the background and it's very slow too. Neither song is great, in fact HGB is abysmally bad since it's like a song from a miserable man muttering in the corner, while "abcdefu" feels like a liberating anthem that's all up in your face at least.

Music needs to drop the vocal processing/autotune of the 2010s and make rock/metal more "mainstream" to be great again.

Only one pop punk song charted well whilst the rest of the top 50 this year was every other genre. Anyway we've been over this like 100 times already and cant come to an agreement so i'm not going to bother, there's no point.

It's not as big as you make it out to be. Just because it's your favorite genre and you want it to be the default sound of pop music doesn't make it so. If anything is the sound of the early '20s, its bedroom pop or throwback trap.

Bedroom is def not the sound of the early 2020s.

You mean retro pop? That's the defining sound.
