That's a possibility. I certainly don't mind hip hop being super popular, I just don't think rock will be completly dead. If anything those kids who were born in 2007 and after might have older siblings or parents who played that type of music a lot and over time some may get an interest with the genre. if anything hip hop and rock could be mixed together, there's already been bands that did this like Linkin Park for example. I would love to see the hip hop game get more diverse in there type of music, maybe even making more people who are black get into rock more. As a black persons I would love for more rock to be in the culture. Yeah, Linkin Park were quite successful in combining rock and hip-hop together. They were able to appeal to both rock fans (like myself) and hip-hop fans, because the elements from the two respective genres were balanced and the songs were well composed. It actually wouldn't surprise me if the two genres are mixed sometime again in the future, especially if nostalgia for nu-metal develops in the mainstream. Who knows, with the greater presence of guitars in pop releases this year, maybe that's the direction music is heading in now! I think rock suffers from the stereotypical image that it's not multi-racial and is only for white men. Of course, that stereotype is absolutely ridiculous. Jimmy Hendrix, Prince and Lenny Kravitz were/are African-American and they were all some of the greatest guitar players in rock music. Hip-hop has been able to succeed to the extent that it has, because it projects the image that it is multi-racial and is for all demographics, even though rock music (and all genres of music) is for everyone to enjoy as well. Even though i'm not a fan of rap music, I don't have a problem with it being popular either. However, I just wish the Billboard Hot 100 (and other Top-40 charts) was more musically diverse and appealed to different demographics, not just tweens who love Justin Bieber and One Direction.

I hate to be the negative one here, but I really don't see rock coming back ever as a dominant mainstream force. We might get more rock influenced songs, occasional rock hits, or even a mini rock revival at some point, but I don't think it will ever be as mainstream as it used to be.

Hip-hop has essentially taken over the reign as being the most-dominant and popular genre in the music scene.

Personally, I would like to see something we haven't already seen before. Like maybe a different genre of music becoming popular next decade.

Rock music will probably never disappear completely though as jazz music is still being made today, it just won't be very popular. You make a good point with jazz though, I don't know why it isn't as popular it's pretty chill. i noticed a lot of songs have jazz influences in them, like chillhop/l- o-if hip hop for example (which honestly I can see that genre of music being a big thing in the future)

Although, it probably doesn't help that kids and teens aren't really exposed to jazz music, unless their parents or grandparents happen to like it.

It's weird, because I love old Jazz music, but no one else in my family does. Even my grandma, who was talking to me about music a couple months ago, said she finds Big Band/Jazz music to be boring, and mentioned how it was before her time, lol.

Since no one in your family enjoys Jazz music, how did you become interested in it? Haha. To be honest, I think age can play a part in how someone perceives Big Bang/Jazz music. For instance, my Grandparents (who were born in 1947 and 1949) don't like Big Band/Jazz music either, even though it was still popular in the '50s and most of the '60s. Yet, my Grandpop (my Grandfather's Dad) who was born in 1924 loved Jazz.

Yet, my Grandpop (my Grandfather's Dad) who was born in 1924 loved Jazz. Okay, it's really weird, but in 2013, I got into the Fallout video games, which use a lot of the older Jazz style music. I didn't care about it much at first, but the songs started getting stuck in my head, and I was thinking that it was actually pretty good music. I figured out that the music was actually licensed music that had existed since the 30's-50's, so I chose a song from the game for a road trip to Arizona (each person chose five songs). When we came home, I started looking up all the artists I liked from those games, looked at their songs that weren't in the games, looked at similar artists, and it just kept on expanding to where I don't even associate it with Fallout anymore. I agree on the age thing though, I feel like most people who loved Jazz were born from the 1900's-1930's.
