This is a pretty controversial topic and there is often heated debate over the merits of legalising marijuana. It's a difficult scenario, because the substance can be easily abused and as a result, it can lead to more trouble, such as committing crimes. Despite this, I believe marijuana should be legalised, but for medicinal practices only. If someone is suffering from a terminal illness and is in a lot of pain, they should be allowed to use marijuana.
What are your thoughts on this? Should marijuana be legalised?

Medical marijuana should be absolutely legalized. Recreational marijuana, on the other hand, should just be culturally discouraged. Simply banning it isn't going to prevent it from thriving off the black market, but at the same time, the drug shouldn't be totally abused far too easily.

If anything, by banning marijuana completely, it only encourages more people to participate in the black market. You already hear of cases where everyday people are beginning to take their lives into their own hands, by going to any measure to try and purchase marijuana for medicinal purposes. A family member may have a terminal illness and none of the medicine they have been prescribed are helping in alleviating the pain. I agree, there needs to be a fine balance between the purposes of marijuana and how it should be used.

I personally think all drugs should be legal. The US has spent a trillion dollars on the War on Drugs, and all it is doing is keeping them profitable in the black market, especially with Mexican drug cartels.

If all drugs were legalised, then more people would take the substances and it could potentially lead to further problems (such as more drug overdoses), which would only result in more money being forked out anyway. It's an ethical issue as well. By legalising all drugs, it sends the message (especially to kids/teens) that drug usage is ok, when it's not necessarily the case.

I think marijuana should only be legal for medicinal reasons like you said. Legalizing all drugs sounds like promoting them IMO.

Weed is going to be legal in Canada next year. The minimum age is going to be 19 in my province, 18 in others. I'm worried because preliminary studies show that smoking under the age of 25 has significant effects on brain development. But there's still not a sufficient amount of research. I personally don't think weed should be legalised. It should be used for medicinal purposes, however I don't believe it should be readily available for public use, at least not until more research has been carried out.

It might as well be legal to be honest. If course for medical use, butt also for what some people know now apparently it's not as bad as regular cigarettes (which smell honestly worse and do more damage)
I don't really see much bad happening since many people do it anyway, even if they take a risk of getting in trouble. theres usually a pretty good chance a few teens in a high school would be smoking weed either in the parking lot the bathrooms or something XD I would rather this be legalized already or to have some fee restrictions on it, even if I'm not a fan of smoking it.

People are going to smoke it anyway. Smoking marijuana is more common than smoking cigarettes in North America. I'd rather it be legalized and regulated, that way the money isn't funnelled into gangs or other criminal groups, and kids can be kept away from it. There isn't much high-quality research on the subject, but we can observe people who have been smoking marijuana for a long time right now, and we can conclude that it's not too life-altering or dangerous, to the point the government should stop you from taking it. At this point, it's a question of freedom.

It is legal in Canada as of a few weeks ago and it's been ABSOLUTE CHAOS. Many stores have been shut down because they ran out of weed, and it can take months to be delivered if bought online.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the legal market will replace the black market for cannabis anytime soon.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the legal market will replace the black market for cannabis anytime soon. I had a feeling that would happen. Maybe it's too soon to judge though, because there's no doubt that there would still be a lot of hype surrounding the fact that weed has only just been legalised and demand would be really high, as a result. Online delivery times and in-store purchases may improve in the next few months.

Legalize it. It’s a plant.
