I've been thinking about how music genres that are attached to a certain decade experience a revival overtime (because of Nostalgia and fauxtagia) and it got me thinking, will dubstep/edm/electropop comeback one day? Disco came back (several times in fact), synthpop also came back, in fact, it came back so hard that it gave birth to electropop, Funk came back, doo wop came back (tho, it died again), Pop rock/punk is coming back right now.
The revivals from the past make me think that one day there will be a 2010s electronic music comeback.
However, sometimes genres don't really come back, for example: 90s Nostalgia has been big for more than 10 years now but Grunge hasn't come back and neither has new jack swing, 80s Nostalgia has been big since the 2000s but we never had a hair metal revival (thank God) or New Wave revival, 2000s Nostalgia is getting big right now but teen pop shows no sign of coming back so far.
It seems that people are pretty selective of what they want to bring back, what could be the criteria? Is it only stuff from the middle-later half of the decade?
Futhermore, if we're to have a 2010s Musical revival, when is it gonna happen? What genres might comeback?
What do you guys think?
I think, there's going to be an electropop revival in the 2030s, i imagine music will be very different by then.

I would give it until the early 2030s I guess.

ElectroPop revival might creep in 2028, but blow up by 2031. By then Artificial Intelligence might be influencing music. As funny, silly or inappropriate this sounds, I expect musicians to ditch editing or polishing their music to go for a more rough draft, natural, unapologetic or "do not give a fuck" sound, so if they sneeze, burp or fart during recording their song, we might hear that. I predict musicians to continue to take their music less seriously than now. I will not be surprised if we hit a new low or high depending on how you look at it. Watch people see 2020-2022 as an extension of the late 2010s or cringe at the era at how "awful" it looks. I bet in the sound of music, more evolution will occur from 2021 to 2031 than from 2011 to 2021, though not as much as 2001 to 2011. I belive AI is going to take over the music industry way before that, we already have AI that can literally compose full on songs Like fore example: This AI made song inspired (read: rip-off) by Nirvana sounds like a human made song, had the person who made this never told us they used an AI, we would NEVER know it. I belive right now AI music is like smartphones in the late 00s-early10s, people didn't think much of it even though it was on the rise and then BAM! It's was everywhere. it's gonna change everything. No more will the big labels have to pay for songwriters or producers (bye bye bye Max Martin) they can just take a bunch of hit songs, feed them to AI, see what sticks, create fake ghost writers, find a young baby faced teen who can sing, give the song to them and promote the sh*t out of it. This is absolutely revolutionary imo, and the big labels probably already have their greedy eyes on it.

I predict AI will take over by the second half of the 2020s or late 2020s. I remember listening to Jukedeck Radio in late 2018 which is AI generated piano music. Jukedeck Radio does not exist anymore. However AI is generating music of course. You are right that AI music is like streaming and smartphones in the late 2000s to early 2010s. People are not giving it much attention now similar to how they did not give much heed to smartphones and streaming in the late 2000s to early 2010s. But by the time AI blows up by the second half of the 2020s or the late 2020s, people will be caught off guard kind of like how they did not know what hit them when streaming and smartphones exploded in the mid 2010s. AI will eliminate the need for a music producer or a DJ. Max Martin will most likely go bankrupt as AI’s rise progresses. AI is absolutely revolutionary. Omg if virtual reality explodes by the second half of the 2020s or late 2020s, then people will be able to experience any event they want to. That might eliminate the need to go anywhere, but hopefully not. AI and Virtual Reality sound like a dangerous and damaging combo, yet exciting at the same time.

Take a look at this An AI that generates streetview like videos, this technology is going to be perfected by the mid 2020s i am 100% sure, by that point in time it will be impossible to distinguish AI made videos/images from the real thing. Have you ever heard of "Openai Dalle"? Google it, it's gonna blow you away. I 100% belive the 2020s are going to be the most changeful decade since the 90s, the amount of changes AIs are gonna start is just massive. Now take a look at this: AI made dialogue for video games, do you see the potential? The 2020s will be revolutionary for entertainment. On a side note: I don't see Max Martin going bankrupt because i believe he owns royalties for many songs so he's gonna make money out of them forever. Producers in the future are less lucky, if anyone wants to make money out of producing music, they better do it quickly before AI takes over. The only problem i see is that some AI developers are unwilling to share their software and would rather sell them to big brands like Google and Microsoft, so this might end up slowing down the changes, which really pisses me off because it's just greed fucking up progress. But i hope I'm just being pessimistic...

I Googled Openai Dalle and it blows me away! I also agree the 2020s will be the most changeful decade since the 1990s and the first decade to be unquestionably 21st century. Virtual Reality and AI are still in their early, infancy and primitive development stages, but I expect that to change in the mid 2020s. I see the potential for AI and virtual reality in 2020s entertainment. Yeah Max Martin going bankrupt is an over exaggeration, will not happen now that you mention him making money off of songs forever. You are right that music producers better act now or the ship will sail for them in no time. I also hope selfishness and greed do not seep into AI and virtual reality, but unfortunately that is a possibility.

Initially, it was thought of as an exciting new way for people to communicate and meet new friends. Now, it's become soulless and corporate because of how advertisers and big businesses have screwed it up.
