True. I don't necessarily hate her, but she could've made much better music by using her voice to her maximum potential. Olivia Rodrigo on the other hand, I enjoy her music because it's louder and more, full of life. Olivia Rodrigo’s music is more colorful. She is what pop culture needs. I’m happy she’s stealing the crown from Bilie Eilish. Wait…I don’t think Bilie Eilish ever had the crown to begin with. Exactly!! I feel like pop culture is on a state of quick transition, but damn

I remember when people used to say that Billie's style of music was the future of pop music lol.
It seems her era only lasted from 2019 to 2020.
I can't wait for Ariana to fall off too, her music is incredibly bland, she basically released the same album twice.
All it takes is 1 flopped album

Now that I think of it, Billie seemed like a Lorde or Adele copycat, nothing original or groundbreaking. She was a product of the late 2010s dark, sad, depressing pop wave as one, some or many on here have mentioned. Even her 2021 album sounds similar to her 2019 debut album. Her debut sounded late 2010s through and through and so does her 2021 album. Nothing about her 2021 album sounds transitional. Her 2021 album could easily have been released in 2017. No wonder why she flopped hard in 2021 because the late 2010s sound and culture is so long in the tooth by now. Yet a lot of late 2010s cultural aspects are not leaving.
I guess the slight shift I’ve noticed in music since 2020 or 2021 is that people are tired of hearing slow, sad, depressing music. People are already quarantined and stuck at home, so that kind of music reminds them of that. They want to be able to go out again, dance and party, so they’re craving upbeat music. Music has definitely started to get upbeat again, but I think we still have a ways to go.
As for Olivia Rodrigo, she deserves the crown. Her music has stood out the most to me in 2021. “Good 4 U” will definitely be in 2021’s Year End charts this December. 2021 has seemed to be a great year for her. It would be fun if she performed on NYE ball drop in Times Square, ringing in 2022 because she has that youthful energy and charisma. Olivia Rodrigo actually sounds fresh along with Doja Cat. Olivia Rodrigo’s “Sour” album sounds like it could potentially be the transition from the late 2010s to early 2020s. “Driver’s License” sounds late 2010s, but “Good 4 U” can potentially be part of the still developing early 2020s sound.

Sort of reminded me how club and electropop music made people "escape" their worries during the Great Recession in the late 2000s/early 2010s, but now it's even more dire with the pandemic, which hopefully will become endemic by next year. I really can't deal with masking and social distancing for so long...

Annnnd she apologized for it. Seriously, this is why cancel culture is so stupid. Glad that there's more criticism about it now.
