Were S Club 7 actually not successful in the US? Because I'm American and I used to watch their show all the time. I also may be one of twelve people who caught B*Witched performing Mickey live on Nickelodeon back in 2001 or thereabouts. If i'm not mistaken, "Never Had a Dream Come True" was the only song of theirs which charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and it reached a peak of #10. They were absolutely huge in other parts of the world during the Y2K-Era. For instance, "Bring It All Back" and "S Club Party" (two of their biggest singles) both managed to reach the Top-5 of many countries around the world and were even certified platinum in the UK and Australia. Yet, despite this, they didn't achieve any form of success in the United States. I can't speak from personal experience (as I was only a toddler during the time and I live overseas), but I think S Club 7 were reasonably well known in the US. They were probably not household names or anything like that, but from what I understand, their TV show had a sizable fan base. #Infinity would know more about this, as S Club 7 is one of her favourite groups.

Haha. It really surprises me that "C'est la vie" was ever a hit in the US to begin with, because as #Infinity unfortunately knows all too well, other bubblegum-pop groups from the British Isles such as S Club 7 and All Saints struggled to achieve the same amount of success in the US as they had elsewhere. I just wouldn't have thought that it would be the type of song that the US would embrace. Lol. I actually can't remember that song, although I watched Rugrats regularly when I was little as well. I also may be one of twelve people who caught B*Witched performing Mickey live on Nickelodeon back in 2001 or thereabouts. They certainly weren't the mega-phenomena they were in the UK, but they were reasonably popular here in the early 2000s. Even though "Never Had a Dream Come True" was their only Billboard hit, their other hits were popular among children because their sitcom aired on Fox Kids. My younger sister was a huge S Club fanatic, which is how I remember their stuff myself. I don't think they were ever as big a deal as the Jonas Brothers or Hannah Montana, but they had their place in American pop culture, regardless. I think they were more readily marketed to a general audience in the UK, which is leaner on songs with light-hearted, bubbly tones and also where the ladies were heavily circulated in FHM Magazine. This explains why every single one of their singles reached the top 5 in that country, no pun intended (they were all top 3 actually, except for "Alive").

This brings back memories of 2007! I think I have it on a 'So Fresh' CD somewhere.

I don't dislike it as much as I did when it was released, but it's still not a song that I would regularly go out of my way to listen to. It reminds me too much of Nickelback. I'm generally not really a fan of '00s post-grunge (e.g Hoobastank, 3 Doors Down) though.

Speaking of songs from the 2000s, I decided to listen to this for the first time in years last night:
This really makes me feel nostalgic for 2006! Just like "Lips of an Angel", it's not a song that I liked all that much at the time, but now I don't think it's too bad.

I do quite like it, but I think that would be mostly due to the nostalgia. I do quite like 2000s post grunge.

Maybe this embarrassing anecdote belongs in the "2016" containment thread, but Closer by the Chainsmokers was playing at the gym today and it made me a bit nostalgic for 2016 Truth be told, I thought the Chainsmokers were decent, it's all the people that tried to copy them afterwards that got on my nerves.

Speaking of, here is a piece of mid-2010s charm:
Both the song and the video clip are very reminiscent of the era.

Heard this song on Triple M tonight:
Probably the first time i've heard it on the radio in many years, I remember it being huge in around 2008. Certainly brought back some memories hearing it again. I thought until recently that it was a song by The Script!

I thought until recently that it was a song by The Script! Never would have expected Triple M to play "Pictures of You"! If anything, it's the type of song you would expect to hear on H!T as an "old skool" track. The last time I can remember hearing it on the radio was when I was listening to 95.5 ROK FM while driving to Parkes back in early May and that's only notable to me because of how rare it actually is to hear it still being played. To be honest, "Pictures of You" isn't a song that gives me any nostalgia for 2008. It probably doesn't help matters that it was overplayed to death at the time, but I've always been of the opinion that the song itself is really average. I wouldn't be disappointed if I never heard it again.

i98fm (a local Top-40 radio station where I live) has a 30-minute "Timetunnel" segment at 9am every weekday morning where they play songs from a particular year and listeners can win a prize if they correctly guess it. Anyway, last Thursday morning, 2004 happened to be the focus and i98fm decided to play this. I couldn't help but laugh when I heard it come on. The sad thing is, I used to actually like Shannon Noll's music when I was 5 and his debut CD was the first album that was ever bought for me. Listening to it now makes me cringe. I can still vividly remember listening to this in the car with my Mum (which would have been torture for her ) and singing along to some of the songs. "New Beginning" was my favourite song off the album, but I also really liked "Drive" as well. I feel like I really owe my Mum an apology...

The legato piano riff is so iconic.
