It's time to discuss a version of Windows so bad it'll spawn Satan if you mention its name, Windows ME. Worse than Vista and 8, and all the people now who are complaining about 10 CLEARLY haven't seen NOTHING yet. So let's discuss. First off, Windows ME wasn't supposed to exist. Yes, WINDOWS ME WASN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO FUCKING EXIST. Windows 98 was intended to be the last Windows 9x version, and afterwards they would've made the next home version of Windows based off NT. However, that version wasn't ready yet, so ME was created as a stopgap release. Basically, Windows ME is the software equivalent of fucking filler and it SHOWS. It's basically Windows 98 with a 2000 skin, both infinitely better than ME. Windows ME was unstable and slow, and if that wasn't enough, it's not even good at BEING DOS-based. The one perk Windows 9x always had over NT is DOS support, as you could log into DOS mode and run DOS-based applications and games like Doom, which was a huge deal at the time. NOPE, couldn't do that on ME. It did have some new features like Windows Movie Maker and System Restore but both SUCKED at the time, wouldn't get better until later releases. What's weird is how the commercial for it makes it look like the greatest thing ever, but it's just false advertising/marketing hype. It's honestly the best part about Windows ME, especially with that Y2K aesthetic. Microsoft clearly DID NOT care about ME and just rushed it as a filler release. Microsoft was much more focused on the infinitely better NT-versions around this time, like 2000 and what would later become XP. The Microsoft website from Summer 2001 just a few months after ME was released is a perfect showcase It's all about Windows 2000 and ME is nothing more than a footnote. Windows XP would soon be released, and there would soon be ABSOULTELY no reason to get ME. I have ME installed on my VM, but it's for collector's purposes. I don't do lots of work on it like I do 98, XP, or 7. I actually really like the aesthetic of Windows ME, the sounds and icons look really cool, but they're STILL stolen from the far superior Windows 2000, so I just end up using that more.
