It’s the pandemic. As a result, musicians haven’t been able to perform, E3s haven’t been able to happen, movies haven’t been able to come out.
Remember that in 2019, Avengers Endgame and Billie Eilish were HUGE deals.
And aspects of pop culture that weren’t heavily impacted by COVID like the video game industry still feel big. Among Us and Cyberpunk 2077 were big deals. Netflix shows like Tiger King and Wandavision.

I believe technology, streaming, and no monoculture are reasons why pop culture isn't huge anymore. It seems as if adventure is gone. Everything feels so instant like with the click of a button or the tap of a finger like teleportation. Pop culture seems like background noise, not the center of attention as it once was in the early 2010s and back. People can tune out today's pop culture, whereas back in 2011, it was inescapable. We could still watch or play or do whatever we wanted back then thanks to the internet.
