We had the worst president, the worst games, the worst aesthetic (Corporate Art Style), the worst YouTubers, the worst movies, the worst music, tragedy everywhere, celebrity deaths, social media depression. EVERYTHING was terrible and nothing was good. The only good things were the Nintendo Switch and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, plus the economy being good. Just because Nintendo made a good console with good games doesn’t mean I suddenly like this era. If anything, they were among the few things keeping me sane during this awful era. Gaming was still dominated by microtransaction trash like Battlefront II and buggy empty bloated messes like Fallout 76. This is one of the worst cultural eras in modern history alongside the early 1960s and early 1970s. It completely undid all the progress the early and mid 2010s made. That’s why they’re the worst cultural era I have ever experienced. I hope the 2020s after COVID will be better. Joe Biden is much better than Trump. AI and virtual reality could lead to breakthroughs in technology.

I wonder if people felt this way towards the later years of other decades Late 2000s we were happy to have Bush out of office. Late 90s there was lots of optimism for the future and booming technology. Not everyone liked those eras, but there wasn’t this sense of dread that existed in those eras. You only had one mass shooting in the late 90s and 2000s. You had to deal with SEVERAL deadlier than anything in any other era in the late 2010s, including the Vegas shooting that is the deadliest of all time.

What about the 80s People probably didn’t like all the hair metal of the era. Yet it was also easily the most peaceful era of the 80s. Especially when compared to the mid 80s and us being dangerously close to nuclear war. Drug usage and crime was decreasing compared to the early-mid 80s. The video game industry recovered thanks to Nintendo. The problem with the late 2010s isn’t even that they’re bad compared to the rest of the 2010s, they were an awful era PERIOD.

Isn't absurdist humor more of a late 10s thing? 🤔 It was popular during the late 10s but I’m talking about that sort of Nyan Cat Uncle Grandpa sort of humor that was so popular back then. So many Cartoon Network shows from back then had that sort of humor.

Isn't absurdist humor more of a late 10s thing? 🤔 Late 2010s is more self-aware though. It’s essentially “how many layers of irony am I on” type memes/humor. I like it, but I’m referring to the completely nonsensical and UNAWARE LOL Random weirdness of early-mid 2010s humor, like Goat Simulator and Uncle Grandpa.

I believe that kind of humor started sometime around 2008 and died in late 2016. I think it peaked around 2010-2013

I think it peaked around 2010-2013 It was already unpopular by the 2014-2015 school year in favor of Vine humor and edgy Filthy Frank-type jokes. 2013 was absolutely the peak, due to shows like Uncle Grandpa and Incredible Crew coming that year.

Now we are living through the hangover of the late 2010s so as bad as they were, this is that nasty headache combined with vomiting we have to get through on the day after. This is by far the worst era of my lifetime. We will be in the mid 2020s by the time Covid is over. It's possible Trump gets re-elected in 2024 and all bets are off in terms of what the future looks like if that happens. Not only does life now simply suck but it's the most uncertain that it's ever been.
