The drop sounds quite dated to me. It's a very "2017" kinda drop.

Problem is that this song still plays on contemporary pop radio all the time, and therefore still sounds contemporary to me. Pop music in general has also been in somewhat of a stagnant state for about seven years now, even beyond that in numerous instances. The electropop era is really the last era that truly sounds "distinct" to me.

The electropop era is really the last era that truly sounds "distinct" to me. I'll have to disagree. There are some musical elements that were popular in the mid 10s and now sound outdated. The big one would be the loud, cheesy eletronic drops (think The Chainsmokers and Marshmello). A song like "alone" by Marshmello would never be a hit in 2021. The hip hop of the mid 10s sounds painfully outdated too, just listen to "black beatles" by Rae Sremmurd. The electropop era lasted from 2008 to 2013 The edm era lasted from 2014 to 2018. No idea what era we are in rn (trap era?). Tropical house is dead too, and that shit was absolutely huge in the mid 10s.

It has that future bass vocal chopping that was huge between 2015-2018. Can't think of a recent song that uses that so I guess the song is dated.
