I remember watching a documentary about it on high school but that's about it Although most brazilians probably heard the word "triplice-aliança" (triple alliance) they don't know what it actually means. I think the youngest generations know the most about it, while most gen xers and boomers don't know about it at all But i can't speak for the entire country since we're 200 million people and education is not uniform here. Most educated Brazilians who care (at least a little bit) about history know about it. And yes, we were taught that a lot of Paraguayan people died but also that the war was needed because Paraguay was stupid for trying to invade Argentina and Brazil (i mean, what were they thinking?) We were also taught that Paraguay was evil because they were using children as soldiers in the war (which is true) Eitherway i almost feel bad for Paraguay because they still haven't really recovered from the war and i imagine they still feel humiliated by it. I think most people in my classroom felt a little bit bad for Paraguay but we still think the conflict was necessary, kind of like the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki In many ways though, Brazil saved Paraguay, because it was the Brazilian army who killed Francisco Solano López (the leader of Paraguay) in the Battle of Cerro Corá in 1870, which ended the war and meant no more Paraguayans would be sent into battle. Also in regards to Brazilian military history, did you know during WW2 Brazil sent a task force known as the Força Expedicionária Brasileira to Italy to fight the Germans and Italians? This is a good documentary about Brazil in World War 2 in case you're interested. Yes. Most Brazilians know about it Search the meaning of "a cobra vai fumar"

Does Brazil ever get snow? Like, even at sea level? It only snows in a few cities in the extreme south of the country We don't have any mountains either so there are no snowcaps Well, actually... We do have mountain but they're all tiny and narrow for some reason. Like the "pico da neblina", "dedo de deus" and "Pão De Açucar" peaks.

-Are there different accents in Brazil? -Are there any differences between Portugese spoken in Brazil and Portugese spoken in Portugal? -What are your thoughts (if any) on Jair Bolsonaro? -Football fan? -Have you ever seen the Brazilian movie "Cidade de Deus"?1. Yes, all countries are like that Like the us we also divide accents into different categories: Northern, Northeastern, Midwest, southeastern, southern. And states have different accents too. 2. Yes, it's bigger than the difference between British and US English actually. Many times it can be hard to understand European Portuguese, they speak like they have two hot potatoes stuck in their mouths, it's very unpleasant. Portuguese speaking countries in Africa (Angola, Mozambique and some others) also have differing accents (my favorite Portuguese accent is angolan Portuguese) but their accent is somewhat similar to european portuguese. 3. Terrible leader and he is racist, sexist and all-things-phobic 4. No, i really don't care. 5. I have heard of it but never watched it... I'd say that movies is more popular in the US than in Brazil. As a person of Hispanic descent(also South American) and with family from a country right next to Brazil(Peru) I can relate to this. The differences between Brazil and Portugal(Hispanic America and Spain) and the multiple accents amongst the countries and the soccer fever especially the hype in the 2010s. Feels awfully familiar

I acknowledge last Wednesday, September 7, was 200 years since Brazilian independence. That must have been an enormous celebration, what happened?

We're probably the least patriotic country in SA Is it because of Bolsonaro? No, we're just naturally unpatriotic Actually, Brazilians are more proud of the states they grew up in, rather than of the whole country I see Brazilians saying they're proud of being from "X" state all the time, i myself am proud of being from the northeastern region of the country, I don't care about being Brazilian. Specially because a lot of things that people in Brazil try to claim "represent" the country are very, in fact, regional things. Like Samba, Macaws, Rio, Capoeira All this shit does NOT represent Brazil in any shape or form. Like 90% of the country can't relate to it, so why are we supposed to be proud of it? Meanwhile we can relate to our regional cultures, like I'm proud of northeastern culture (specially Paraíba culture, because that's my home state). Couldn't give a crap about the rest of the country's culture, specially Rio de Janeiro's culture (🤢)

Apologies for the late reply The problem with Rio culture is that they think they're the cultural center of the country, and everything else is just a gimmick or an alternative version of their culture They also think their culture is more sophisticated than other cultures Same thing can be said for São Paulo, even more so because they're the richest state and they think their accent is the "neutral Brazilian accent" and every other accent is "regional" 🙄🙄🙄🙄
