I've decided to check out some of Gerard Way's solo releases, namely because I have developed a new appreciation for My Chemical Romance's music in recent months and I was curious to know what his solo output was like. Gerard Way's solo releases are really good; they are very glam-rock and Britpop influenced. "Baby You're a Haunted House" would personally be my favourite, but I really like "Millions" and "Hazy Shade of Winter" as well.

This unreleased Linkin Park song from 1999 is heavily influenced by Nirvana, so much so that the opening guitar riff is something I could totally imagine Kurt Cobain coming up with. "Blue" is Nu-Grunge, if ever there was a thing. It's worth a listen!

I hear Fresh off the Boat is being cancelled. Other than for the main actress wanting it cancelled just so she can focus on another project of her own, nobody else wanted that show to be cancelled. I have to say while the show is pretty unrealistic, it is actually very nice.

I finally got around to listening to Fall Out Boy's "Young and Menace" for the first time tonight. If you're unfamiliar with it, it's a song that has been absolutely slammed by fans and music critics alike for it's awful production and ear-piercing, chipmunk vocals. Well, after listening to it in full, I can completely understand where they are coming from, man is it bad. The chorus is very hard to get through.
I can sort of see where Fall Out Boy were wanting to go with this, but the execution is so poorly off. That "Oops...I Did It Again" Britney Spears name-drop is cringey, it's just a line thrown-in for the hell of it and it doesn't even tie-in with the rest of the lyrics. Also, the song quite literally 'kicks the bucket' when that line is said. It never recovers. The vocals and guitar chords during the intro/first verse are actually decent, but even then, they are accompanied by that god-awful synth that sounds like a mosquito flying into your eardrum.

I recently joined Chase, considering I was with Citibank for five years now. Chase has the sapphire reserved card, which lets you have lounge access and earn points for travelling. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

It's just occurred to me how odd it is that Green Day's song is called "Holiday" when, in the United States (which is where Green Day originate from), the word "vacation" is used instead. Yeah I know, pretty random.

Yeah I know, pretty random. You can use both. You need to listen to the entire album btw, easily one of the biggest album of my child/teenhood (and @loosebolt 's too apparently).

...Actually I hated American Idiot when it first came out. I learned to appreciate it a few years afterward though. And no matter whether I loved or hated it, I have always tended to think of it as the dividing line between the early '00s/Y2K timeloop and the core '00s.

Hmm, maybe, I can't say that it has ever been an album which has grabbed my interest, tbh. I think my biggest issue with American Idiot is that it feels as though it has become a generation-defining album as it was set-up to be one, not necessarily because of how great the album itself is. It's not like The Black Parade where it was heavily criticised upon release due to it's association with the emo scene and it has since been reevaluated. Green Day fully intended for AI to be a political-driven, "rock opera" record. The whole concept and hype surrounding it just seems very carefully calculated and superficial to me.

My Dad was listening to "No Reply" while I was in the car with him this morning and it randomly clicked that the "I nearly died" part of the song has the exact same vocal delivery and drum beats as in this song:
Listen to 0:47-0:56 of "No Reply" and then listen to 0:36-0:48 of "Vow". It makes me wonder if Garbage actually drew inspiration from the song, or if it is just an interesting coincidence.

Sorry for the rambling but I need to vent a little. But oh my god do I hate baby boomers when they comment on contemporary music. I'm sorry but if you're clearly out-of-touch with nowadays' music, I don't think you should comment what you consider sounding modern or not.
The context is that I follow a blog that reviews hits from the past, and TLC's "Creep" from 1994 popped up at some point, and a bunch of boomers were arguing that that song sounds very modern and could have easily been released today and how surprisingly minimal the differences between 1995's music and 2022's are.
I mean really? Those shuffle beats, that funky baseline, those turntable scratches, that muted trumpet sample, it hardly sounds like a R&B song you'd hear nowadays, which are all about airy synths, deep basses and drawn-out vocals. Ugh!
