I was thinking about this earlier. Generally speaking, every decade has a unique, signature sound/look to it . However, I don't believe there is a cultural aesthetic associated with this decade, to be honest. I personally don't think people will associate EDM and trap with the 2010s, like how people associate Disco with the '70s or new-wave with the '80s. There just doesn't seem to be anything which truly is unique and differentiates the 2010s from other decades.
What would you say is the defining signature look/sound of the 2010s? Do you think there even is one?

I think EDM and trap will definitely be associated with the 2010’s. Just look at how popular these two music genres are right now. I would even go as far to say that trap is at its peak in 2017.

I understand what you mean and I agree that those genres will be associated with the 2010s. However, with that said, I don't think they will become as renowned with the 2010s, to the same extent as Disco is with the 1970s. When people think of the '70s, the first thing they generally think of is Disco. I just can't see that happening with the 2010s and trap music.

We are still less than halfway through the late 2010’s. I can see people talking about how trap and EDM are so 2010’s in the future especially since those are the two biggest music genres in this decade.

Yeah I completely agree. You know SharksFan99, people said the exact same things about the 2000s, like oh the decade has no cultural identity/aesthetic, well I can tell you now from a 2017 perspective it certainly does. Some things I look at now just automatically look so 2000s, whether it's the music or what people are wearing etc, so I'm pretty sure the same will apply for this decade. I thinks it's just that we haven't entered a new decade yet and so therefore you can't distiguish the "aesthetic" of the 2010s, simply becasue it's what we're currently living in.
