- Smartphones start taking off - Windows 7 overtakes XP - Google Chrome starts taking off - 3DS releases - Electropop starts sounding different. The synths are much louder and less influence from natural instruments. It sounds more in line with full blown EDM. - New iconic artists in the mainstream like LMFAO, Jessie J, Adele, Calvin Harris, Bruno Mars, Olly Murs and Nicki Minaj - The start of 2010s type protests/riots with Occupy Wall Street, London Riots and Arab Spring - The end of the Iraq War with Osama Bin Laden dead - The death of Gadaffi - Pokemon Gen 5 - CN revival era starting with shows like Regular Show and Adventure Time - Dark Souls, Minecraft and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim release which are extremely iconic 2010s games
It's arguable this is the true start of the early 10s and mid/late 09-2011 is just an empty transition period. So much stuff that defines the 10s or at least a sizeable amount of it started here.

I agree that some electropop did start to sound different that year and more like straight up EDM. But I think 2011 (and 2012) is also when some electrpop songs started to seem more inspired by natural instruments more so than in 2008-10. Definitely more instrument influence with the guitar in the background rather than stuff like “Tik Tok” or “Blah Blah Blah”. Also uses guitar sounds Mostly the saxophone at the bridge Another guitar influenced song and this is one of the most early 10s songs ever Although I don’t think that 2011 had a legitimate shift, I did notice some things started to change even as that year was happening. Like you said, I think 2011 was just when the early 10s identity solidified itself. It was there in 2010 and to an extant 2009 but in 2011 was when we were undeniably in the 2010s. I consider 2009-11 a mini era

2011 was when 2010s culture was solidified. You also got hashtags being used in political protests like the Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street. Hipster fashion becoming mainstream and the quiff hair starts to take off. Meme culture also start to really be felt this year.

Every year is an underlooked transition if you look hard enough.

Yes there are changes every year but some have much bigger and more changes than others. Those ones are what are known as transitional years.

In my opinion, I actually consider 2011 to be the true start of the 2010s politically, with 2008-2010 a transitional period (and 2008 still leaning more 2000s). Minecraft releasing was also significant. But some of these are debatable. IMO the CN revival era began in 2010, really solidified by the end of that year. Google Chrome launched in 2008, and I already remember using it before 2011. Of course, I am a tech geek, so I tend to be an early adopter of these kinds of things, but even then, you saw lots of ads for it on Google and YouTube. I also remember watching videos that talked about what the best browsers were. The Second Browser Wars had begun. Honestly the late 2000s and early 2010s were fascinating for web browsing, because you had some many different browsers that were popular, like Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Google Chrome, and Opera. One thing you did not mention that I actually would like to bring up, whilst My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic came out in 2010, 2011 was the year when bronies took over the internet, and it became inescapable.

Also, what do you think of my point regarding bronies?

You're way off base about electropop sounding different. Just listen to any popular Lady Gaga song from 2008. You will hear the same electropop that is popular in the early 2010s.

Lol Poker Face sounds nothing like Born This Way. In fact, electropop from about 2011-2013 sounds closer to EDM than electropop in 2008. Electropop back then still had 00s influences and wasn't as synthy as it was in the early 10s. Poker face is a good example of this. Same could be said for others like "Just Dance", "Waking up in Vegas", "My life would suck without you", "Fire burning", "Down", etc. You had some other electropop songs which were fused with pop rock. 2008-2009 electropop was in a beta phase which had noticeable 00s influence, 2011-2013 was when the sound was fully developed and sounded like EDM with more vocals.
