You couldn't tell if the song was a rap, r'n'b, pop, rock, electronic, jazz, etc song, almost as a weird blend of genres or a song completely alien from all known music genres.
What songs did you listen to where you got the genre incorrect? For example you guess a certain song sounds like rock, but was supposed to be rap or r'n'b.

Love the idea of this thread!
Apparently this is a genre called "acid jazz". Though I would have a very hard time describing it to someone. It's funky and very 90s I guess?

Sounds funky and very 1990s indeed. Sounds like a song that could come out in 1995, maybe 1996-1998. Well... it did come out in 1996 so it figures

This is one of the most bizarre hit songs of all-time. Hard to think music could sound like this in 1981! I wouldn't know what genre this counts as though. Way too minimal to be either new wave or synthpop, and those are the closest things.
