I think they started coming around 2010-2011 and blew up around 2016-2017.
Do you see those trends continuing in the 2020s or eventually disappearing?

Vaporwave was underground in 2011-2012. The genre became really mainstream by 2015 and reached its peak around 2016-17. It’s been used by a lot of meme channels back in the day. Lo Fi hip hop blew up in 2017 I think.

Vaporwave, both the aesthetic and music, originated in 2010 and peaked around 2017-2018

Lo-Fi was probably the second half of 2018. That's when I noticed everyone jumping on the bandwagon. Vaporwave goes back to the early 2010s.

Somehow, the Vaporwave aesthetic lasted more than the genre.

Somehow, the Vaporwave aesthetic lasted more than the genre. Vaporwave is one of the defining aesthetic of the 10s imo Ironic since it's just a throwback to the 80s

I think you can blame/thank this 2012 Rihanna performance for catapulting the vaporwave aesthetics into the mainstream:
As for the music, it took a few more years, but probably peaked around 2015-2016. I don't think you could go a day on the internet without seeing A E S T H E T I C S somewhere. For this it's either Saint Pepsi or Simpsonwave that hooked people in.

I’ve noticed late 2010s to present TV commercials, R&B & rap music have a Lofi sound to them. That maybe changing now as the edgy pop punk, rock sound is coming back. I’ve heard that sound in a lot of trap or rap songs released in 2021, which sounds newer or fresher. I guess genre fusion is the way to go in the 2020s to create new, exciting sounds. I think rap rock has the potential to come back in the 2020s. I’m curious if Lofi takes inspiration from the 1990s and or early 2000s because I get those vibes when listening to that music or seeing the videos. punk-trap fusion was what I thought would be the logical evolution from emo trap in 2017.
