Rage comics and quirky/random/cheesy memes used to be all the rage back in 2008-2015
But sometime around 2016 people starting seeing that kind of humor as "unfunny", "simple", "cringy" and "obsolete"
Nowadays people make fun of that kind of humor, they take old memes like troll face/doge/rage-comics and give it a sarcastic spin, paying homage to the "old days" but also hand waving at how cheesy humor was back then
Will present day / ironic memes ever be seen as "cringy" and "unfunny" too? Will the people of 2026 look back at late 10s/early 20s humor and cringe at how simple and cheesy it was?
Will they take memes like pepe the frog/ricardo/surprised-pikachu and give it a sarcastic spin?
Will they take present day ironic memes and make them even more ironic?
I believe that yes, one day people of the future will make fun of our memes. Hell, some memes from 2016-2017 already feel dated and obsolete asf, shit like "PPAP" "damn daniel" and "ugandan knuckles"
And even some 2018-2019 stuff like all the cringy shaggy memes

Yes, present-day/ironic memes will be seen as cringy and unfunny. That wannabe deep, edgy, sarcastic politically correct, and political "humor" will age so terribly by 2026 that it will be a laughing stock. I can't wait for that to happen. "Oh look at me! I'm so cool, random, and not like others" humor will be outdated and passe by 2026. But like you said a lot of that humor was already passe by 2016. Come to think of it, the 2010s were a show-off decade. I'm crossing my fingers that it happens because those kinds of humor got old real quick. I also hope people trying to make their religion, race, skin color the only defining aspects of their personality stop. 2016-2017 memes got dated real fast. Dabbing is seen as lame since around 2018-2021.

It probably will. The memes today are cringeworthy as hell already like "nobody:" and that meme with the chad reacting to things and the other guy being triggered. And I really fucking hope so. I've had enough of these quirky irony/post irony memes and they've overstayed their welcome. I miss the more sincere and punchy humor of the early 10s.

If so, they are used as obvious straw man arguments. Early 2010s memes were cringe but they were quite wholesome and honest.

I believe wojacks are the same thing as rage comics, just more refined and diverse Not all wojacks are "straw man arguments" some are just literal small "comics" that tell a "funny" story Somewhat unrelated but let's not forget the "are ya winning son?" Comic, it's literally just a neo-rage comic made in ms paint

Probably so.
It's already beyond embarrassing to watch some of the "Epic Rap Battles of History" from the early 2010s.

I think it really depends on the meme how well it ages. I can still watch We are Number One memes from 2016, and still enjoy them, but Damn Daniel and PPAP are cringy AF. Of course, the former is a Vine meme which certainly makes it feel more dated and mid-10s ish, and the latter, well, is just an awful song.
