For anyone who isn't aware of this, in the United Kingdom, you need to purchase a television licence (which includes an annual fee) in order to watch television broadcasts. I've never actually been to the UK before, however one of my friends (who migrated from England when he was 6) has told me about it, which is how I am aware of it.
In this day and age where traditional TV is competing against streaming services and social media, do you think the television licence will ever be scrapped?

I agree with you, Alexander, because the BBC are, quite frankly, far too greedy like all corporates.

The BBC likely wouldn't have any input on whether the television licence should remain or not, even though the network is funded by taxpayers money.

Very likely, Shark, as the Government love to poke their noses everywhere they're not wanted.
I actually don't have a television myself because I object to having to pay for a licence (which I can't afford anyway) and also because I just don't like television!

I don't think it's going to last long enough in the near future. We now live in a world where technology is making our lives more and more convenient. We can watch videos any day at anytime on our smartphones, with one tap on a touchscreen and that is all it takes. Streaming services such as Netflix are the norm in the majority of households now.

I tend to agree. In a way, if television wants to remain truly competitive in the UK, I think it's inevitable that the television licence will need to be scrapped at some point.
