2005-2006 season was probably one of the worst for 2000s music. Snap/ringtone rap made a name for themselves this year. 2000s materialistic bling culture was at their peak. The mid 2000s already felt annoying to me by late 2005.
2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons were much better and more promising than 2005-2006.

I can't defend it. 2009 is much much better than 2005-2006. What also makes 2005-2006 suck imo: - Everyone thinking they are deep and intellectual because they are against bush and american foreign policy and think mcdonalds is unhealthy and repeat this as many times as possible. They weren't wrong but the approach was obnoxious. - Emo scene wasn't innovative, it was watered down subculture, created on the internet, that ruined and stole the name of actual decent post-hardcore based emo music and subculture from 90s to early 2004. - Most Rap/rnb felt fake, talentless and crass sounding - Pop culture glorifies narcissism and materialism. Super alpha males/macho jerks = good and top of the coolness hierarchy, wannabe bling/diva/bubblegum girls = good and top of the coolness hierarchy - Electronic music still sounds like bad european remixed techno music from 2001 and is everywhere all the time. - Peak bleached pants, and bad fashion - Lazy hairstyles; sloppy, barely combed and badly dyed hair thin looking hair with split ends is considered stylish - Most movies suck - Not enough decent streaming and video content - Wikipedia is full of horribly written unsourced articles. - Gamecube and PS2 are almost dead but nothing replaced them.

Great points! I thought I was the only one who hated the 2005-2006 season as it was going on and still do looking back. Come to think of it, 2009 beats the 2005-2006 season in some ways. 2000-2001 season seems like a disappointment, failure or let down from the 1999-2000 season, but you and John Titor know more about that. Now about the 2005-2006 season: Some say it was another peak mid 2000s season, but I’ll disagree and give that to the 2004-2005 season. The 2005-2006 season already seemed to be heading towards the late 2000s, while still predominantly mid 2000s. The 2004-2005 season had the earliest late 2000s influences, but felt comfortably peak 2000s. A lot of crap that came out during the 2005-2006 season was still relevant through the 2008-2009 season, maybe the 2009-2010 season or later. I get annoyed when people say that the 2005-2006 season was early 2000s or belongs to the 1st half of the 2000s. I want to tell them to stop insulting the early or the first half of the 2000s by including that terrible year as a part of it. They clearly belong to the 2nd half of the 2000s. The early 2000s seemed mostly distant at this point, definitely more so by 2006-2007, 2007-2008 or 2008-2009 seasons. I remember thinking in class around late 2005, that 2002 felt like a long time ago, no joke. That could be because I was 7 years old in 2005 and 4 years old in 2002. I can’t defend the 2005-2006 season either. I won’t try. It's irredeemable. I had a 2nd grade teacher who was a bitch and a bully to me. She destroyed my life and shattered any confidence I had in myself. She’d constantly blame me for everything that went wrong in her classroom. My mom would get phone calls from her everyday complaining about me. That was one of the lowest points of my life. I was happy the last day of school when it ended. Movies from then seem forgettable. I can’t name one that I liked, remembered or care for. Music was mostly try-hard and trash. I hated the fashion. TV wasn’t amazing like earlier. A lot of kid culture felt watered down and didn’t have a tenth of the early 2000s charm it once had. Reality TV started to dominate. Disney Channel had some good shows continuing from earlier like “That’s So Raven,” “Kim Possible,” “Suit Life of Zack and Cody,” “Lilo and Stitch,” etc. I guess Cartoon Network was ok in their City era, but not as great as their Powerhouse era of sometime in 1998 through mid June 2004. I can’t think of anything noteworthy from Nickelodeon. Spongebob started to suck and felt past their prime. They should’ve ended with the 2004 movie. Hurricane Katrina dominated this season which highlighted Bush’s incompetence to many people. Gas prices increased. I think the earliest hints of the Great Recession can be traced back to the 2005-2006 season. Bush backlash got totally out of hand. 6th generation gaming was at their peak or height throughout 2004, but already past that by the 2005-2006 season.

I didn't hate 05-06 school year actually lol
but as far as downgrade, 06-07 WAS DEFIANTLY A DOWNGRADE and you could feel it, even if tech was upgraded. Also the school year you could tell the recession was about to pop off down the pike.

Also the school year you could tell the recession was about to pop off down the pike. I respect your opinion. I also agree with 2006-2007 pop culturally, even with TV. I had an irking feeling that something was coming throughout that season. Things seemed too good to be true. At a stretch, that was probably the last time the economy was holding on. My personal life was better in the 2006-2007 season compared to the 2005-2006 season, which keeps me from ranking it low. I had an amazing 3rd grade teacher in the 2006-2007 season, who understood me and is the reason why I've made it far in life and am successful. We started this season with The WB leaving and UPN, The CW was NEVER a suitable replacement ever, I hated it, the Green graphics and yellow font...just no lol Also TRL stopped airing Friday episodes and started Pre-taping every other episode, Cartoon Network was good, but you could tell there were cracks, esp when Toonami rebranded to Thomas the Tank Engine crap. In school many teachers were out for like 3 days at a time over pay, I guess pre-recession effects were starting with the pay grade. Cool things about this season, to give it some rep - Netflix ads all over TV for the first time - Timbaland's production is almost on every song - Ps3 and Wii launch - watching Ps3 flop - Iphone launch - Seeing the blackberry pearl launch - watching Windows Vista flop ( it looked cool tho lol) - Gears of War billboards on everything for Xbox 360 - peak Adult Swim

Many points off for CW. TRL seemed to have lost their magic, should've ended in the early half of 2006. At least it would've ended on somewhat of a high note. I could sense Cartoon Network's transition in 2006 to the dark era they had from sometime in 2007 to sometime in 2010. I never knew about teachers taking off days for overpay. Those cool things about the 2006-2007 season seem dope and well deserved. It seems so futuristic, yet dark. I knew even then that the PS3 would be a flop right off the bat. Window Vista should've never happened. I actually got PS3 in late 2006 and traded it for wii after buying 3 games I barely played a few months later. There were a number of things that bloomed in 2008 from late 2006. I feel like mid 2005 to mid 2007 was a mostly a shitshow, with minor redeemable qualities, late 2006-2007 was definately better than 2005-2006. I think 2007-2008 was a a more balanced time and is severely underated, it kind of had the best of both worlds, probably one of the best 2000s periods minus the recession and if that impacted you.

Yeah the 2005-2006 season was the low IQ version of 2004-2005. I was in 1st Grade during this time. Everything about the school year felt rushed and in a hurry kind of vibe. Compared to the year before where things were a little more slow paced. But there were a few things that I like about it. But it didn’t have a strong identity compare to the rest though.

The 2016-2017 school year was amazing, I was in 8th grade that year. When I entered high school in the 2017-2018 school year it was kind of a let down from the previous year.

2019-2020 vs 2020-2021 is one IMO. Ignoring COVID even, the pop culture of 2020-2021 just felt like a step down compared to 2019-2020.
2021-2022 seems a little better but still not as good as 2019-2020.

I think the real peak was 2005-2006. If Sony and Microsoft sucking is grounds for a supposedly good year, it really doesn’t seem that great, now does it? Main reason I liked 2006-2007 was because of the booming Web 2.0 culture. Peak of MySpace, peak of emo. YouTube was exploding. AVGN was great. It wasn’t all bad for gaming either. I know you didn’t like this console but I actually loved the Wii. And Bully and God of War 2 were great and gave poor kids a good excuse not to upgrade. At the same time, this WAS the year that gave birth to Sonic 06… Also, I’m with you on 2005-2006 personally. That year was great LMAO

For the late 2010s replace Bush with Trump and replace “McDonald’s is unhealthy” with “racism is bad” and you have your typical woke orange man bad satire. Honestly, for this one, I totally get it, although it also kinda remained a thing until the 2008 election.

Personally, I found 2016-2017 ITSELF to be a downgrade from 2015-2016. 2015-2016 is a school year I've grown fond of recently. It wasn't perfect, no 2010s school year will ever beat the 2000s to me, but it's one of the better ones. Vine has grown on me recently, I know you may not be a fan but I am. Some memes were obnoxious like "Damn Daniel", but there were some funny ones. Things were getting more politically divisive but it wasn't a shitshow completely yet. In 2016-2017, Trump became president, and Vine shut down. Not to mention everybody was playing with those damn fidget spinners. Also, Jake Paul (fucking hate him) became popular, and YouTube began demonetizing people. And somehow, 2017-2018 was EVEN worse to me. Filthy Frank stopped making videos due to his health issues, the Parkland shooting happened, the Las Vegas shooting happened, the MeToo movement happened, and worst of all, FORTNITE BECAME POPULAR.

Anyways if you want MY personal opinion, I think there is a school year that's FAR worse than anything you guys are bringing up. I feel the same way about it like John Titor does about 2000-2001. And what school year is that? 2009-2010.I was not a fan of this school year AT ALL. I hated the culture and vibe of it. But instead of just telling you that it sucks, I'm going to SHOW you have bloody awful it really was.
