This was a long time coming but sad to see this finally official. Very much the end of an era that’s for sure - all 37 years of it!

I know around 2 that are still open (drove past one of them yesterday), though last time I went to my local or any video store was when it closed in 2014!

Video City was the last major rental store down here. I think there might still be some small independent ones still operating in regional areas but that’s about it now. It’s a shame really. I really liked their 90s TV commercials, that awesome jingle! I have a cleaner version but here’s a clip anyways!

Sad to hear that the final "Video City" store is closing down, but I guess it's a sign of the times.
Interesting to hear that the chain was in three states at one point, I wonder which other two they were in? Because I don't think we ever had Video City (the much larger Video Ezy, yes but they were in all states & territories of Australia AFAIK) up here...

I've never heard of Video City before, nor it existing in Victoria before! All we had here was Blockbuster and Video Ezy.

The answer to this is in the quoted article above; Victoria & Queensland. I've never heard of Video City before, nor it existing in Victoria before! All we had here was Blockbuster and Video Ezy. That’s interesting that you have never heard of them before. I’m guessing their stores could’ve have been located in the outer suburbs only? Either that or you are too young and these had already closed before you realised they existed?

They weren't probably in my area or maybe they closed a very long time ago or maybe there were only a few. The only other video stores I can think of is Network Video and Civic Video. I wonder if someones made a website of every video rental store ever!

I found this amusing. Probably the busiest the place has been in a decade or more. They weren't probably in my area or maybe they closed a very long time ago or maybe there were only a few. The only other video stores I can think of is Network Video and Civic Video. Possibly. I bet at least one VC was located out at Frankston and similar areas during its peak. These sorts of suburbs would’ve been very profitable I’d imagine. I have never heard of Network or Civic Video so I’m not sure if they ever had stores in Tassie. I wonder if someones made a website of every video rental store ever! I have never searched for that before but I wouldn’t be surprised! As you’d know, there’s websites for all sorts of fascinating things.

I guess this is on topic. An upload from AussieTV of something i've been looking for a long time, the Safeway version of the 2008 'Fresh Food People' commercial. I actually thought that my memory was failing and that it didn't exist! Something I remember was that this song was constantly played in store, sometimes they played the Safeway version while on other occasions they played the Woolworths version. They were still occasionally playing the Safeway version over the speaker into the 2010s.

Definitely a weird change over period that took almost 10 years, and people still call it Safeway now ahahah.

I read this a few hours ago. If there’s “demand” and all.
