While I personally think Boxing Day is too early to be selling Hot Cross Buns, obviously people are buying them otherwise the likes of Coles wouldn't stock them until a month or so before Easter!

Why do people get so 'outraged' at this? It actually happens every year, yet the media mention it every year like it's something new. There's obviously a financial benefit as they wouldn't do it otherwise! It shows how desparate we are for news stories at this time of year. I'm not referring to anyone on here (as no one here is outraged), but the people who are outraged need to calm down, as it's only bread.

Haha, clearly these ‘outraged’ people have nothing else better to do with themselves at the moment. Although, the general population gets outraged over literally everything these days! The news cycle, particularly during the festive/summer holidays, is ridiculous to say the least. It’s incredibly poor journalism, which journalists should really be ashamed of, lol. You always know you will see stories like this amongst others get published.

I actually would have expected the number to have been higher. There's quite a few franchises I can think of that were around 10-15 years ago but are no longer in existence, such as Bi-Lo, Franklins, GO-LO, Eagle Boys etc. That's not even taking into account all of the video stores which have closed down in recent years. It's a shame that we've lost so many retail brands over the past ten years, although it really doesn't surprise me in the slightest. People's shopping habits have changed. In 2010, food-delivering services such as Uber Eats and Deliveroo weren't even around yet, neither were streaming sites such as Netflix or Disney+. The 2020s will see even more store closures unfortunately.

Here in the States, Toys R Us was a casualty.

To think we are only just a mere few weeks into 2020 and already mass closures are about to (or have) taken place. BIG W, Harris Scarfe, Jeanswest etc. I’m actually surprised they are still around (mostly found regionally though), but Sanity are choosing to close stores also. www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/inside-australias-2020-retail-bloodbath-as-brands-rocked-by-mass-closures-by-midjanuary/news-story/14c50866e94b06b94f2a392310a12056
