It would be a shame if that were to happen, as it would mean that many people would lose their jobs as a result.

Lol, most of the rental stores near me closed down years ago, however there are a couple that are still running. When I drive past I always wonder how they make any money these days lol

When I drive past I always wonder how they make any money these days lol There used to be 2 Video City stores about 5 mintutes away from where I lived about 10 years ago. These days, the closest one is about a 20 minute drive from where I live (not that it worries me as I haven’t visited one since the ones near me closed down ). I know, I’m amazed they have lasted this long. The last time I drove past one there was no one in there with the staff just playing on their phones or wandering around making out they’re doing something constructive.

An American member of our forum will have to confirm if this is true or not, but from what I understand, there are even fewer video rental stores left in the US. Blockbuster actually filed for bankruptcy back in 2010 and by 2014, the majority of it's US stores had closed. Mind you, streaming services have been popular for longer in the States than they have in Australia. Netflix has offered streaming over there since 2007!

Terrible news. I feel sorry for everyone who will lose their jobs, as a result of the decision.

Although I have never been to an Espirit store before, it's a shame to see it close it's operations in Australia and New Zealand entirely. Feel sorry for all of the workers who will soon be out of a job.

Feel sorry for all of the workers who will soon be out of a job. Same. It disappointing to hear of 350 employees soon to be without jobs though (according to the article, about 100 jobs lost in NSW, 90 in Victoria, and 30 in New Zealand).

Amazon are really struggling to establish themselves in Australia, aren't they? It seems like they are just going from one setback to another.

I actually find it a little surprising they “backflipped” as quick as they did. I know their new Australian online store has failed spectacularly, but considering they were pretty forthright they were to ban shipping of goods only mere months ago because of the GST and then out of nowhere this. Yes, there was a huge amount of criticism by the public when they announced their decision, but usually big businesses ignore these things. One thing though, Gerry Harvey won’t be happy!
