Haha, the title of this thread is a bit ridiculous, but I couldn't fit in the entire question. At what age did you learn to ride a bike without training wheels? I learnt how to ride a bike without training wheels in 2004, when I was 5 years old.

Sorry about that.

I'm pretty sure I was about 5 aswell. I remeber me and my friend riding our bikes at the school and he didn't have training wheels but I still did. Then I learned to ride a bike that year and for Christmas I got this new bike and I got on it and went all the way from my house through the neighbourhood

This is one of the most traumatic childhood memories for me. I believe I was 9 years old, and I still had training wheels. I got on by normally, until one kid pointed it out "Ha, you still got training wheels! 4 wheeler!" After that, my nickname in the neighbourhood playground was "4 wheeler". People stopped calling me by name, it was always "4 wheeler". Hi four wheeler, how's it going 4 wheeler, what did you have for lunch 4 wheeler etc. When we were playing some sort of game outside (can't remember what it was) and I kept beating everyone, a kid said "Whatever! You're just a stupid 4 wheeler anyway!" All the kids started taunting me by shouting "4 wheeler! 4 wheeler! 4 wheeler!". I ran away crying and hid behind a park car. A kid (older than me, I think he was 13 or 14) felt sorry for me and came running after me. Gave me a huge inspirational talk about how kids used to call him 4 wheeler, but he didn't let it get to him, and he practised everyday really really hard and now he's a 2 wheeler like everyone else. It was super cheesy. But he offered to teach me how to ride without training wheels. I used to get up everyday at 7AM and ride with him and his sister, I think I got the hang of it in about a week. After that, I started kicking ass in races against the kids who taunted me. 😎 Biking is still a huge hobby of mine to this day! This past summer I biked 844 km. Summer 2011 was my best at 1275km. This spring I want to get into mountain biking and also start commuting by bike to work (18km away).

Thank you for sharing your story Slowpoke and i'm sorry to hear about the experiences you had as a child. It's good that the 13/14 year old kid offered to help you learn how to ride without training wheels. A lot of kids probably wouldn't have had the courage to go and help someone younger than them (especially someone who is being taunted), so it's good to hear that he took the time to help you with it. Just out of curiosity, did you stay in contact with him after you had learnt to ride a bike without training wheels? Also, those statistics are really impressive! I'm lucky if I can even ride up to 4km, let alone 18km at a single time! I'm pretty sure I was about 5 aswell. I remeber me and my friend riding our bikes at the school and he didn't have training wheels but I still did. Then I learned to ride a bike that year and for Christmas I got this new bike and I got on it and went all the way from my house through the neighbourhood I'm surprised that you were allowed to ride through all of the neighbourhood at age 5. Weren't your parents concerned?

Weren't your parents concerned? Oh, you don't have to feel sorry for me! I used to feel bad about it then but now it's just a funny childhood story to me haha. Unfortunately I haven't kept in touch with him. I moved two hours away to Toronto in 2004. I have his email address, I think the last time I talked to him must've been in 2006 or 2007 on MSN. I could probably add him on Facebook. And yeah he was a really chill dude! He introduced me to Grand Theft Auto at 9. I *have* kept in touch with the kids who taunted me though. They're some of my best friends actually, haha. I still go back to my hometown every 2-8 weeks (more often in the summer) to go see them. 😂 Only 4km? Do you drive a car? I grew up in a very urban part of Toronto in my teen years, so biking was a fact of life for me, maybe it sounds less impressive in that context.

It might even be worth shouting him a message sometime, even if he doesn't get around to responding. You played Grand Theft Auto when you were 9? Did your parents know about that?! I wasn't allowed to play GTA until I was 14, and even then my Mum still wasn't too keen on the idea! It's good to hear that you became friends with the kids who used to bully you. It must be funny to think back on now. Yeah I do. Wollongong (the city I live in) isn't as densely populated as Toronto and the city is quite spread out. I live about 20 minutes away from the Wollongong CBD and there's very few people who would even consider riding their bike into the city centre from where I live!

He turned hot! 😲 No my parents didn't know. It was at his house, we lived in the same neighbourhood. Also I'm surprised your mom knew what GTA was, my parents are completely clueless about video games 😂 Oh, it's not that I befriended them after them picking on me/bullying me. We were always friends, but you know how kids can be mean sometimes, it was just my turn that week! In my neighbourhood, all the kids were friends with each other and we went to the same school. Damn, do you own the car? You have more wealth than me even though I'm 6 years older. 🤔 Also, you should start biking into the CBD. Inspire others! 😋

I've been playing GTA since I was 5 . I was playing GTA San Andreas just after it came out with some friends at this older kids house, I think my mum knew that the game was sort of violent but she didn't realise exactly. I used to play all the GTA games at my friends house becasue his mum didn't seem to care.

I think my Mum only knew about the GTA series, because of how violent the games are. Yeah I do. I've owned a car since April last year, just a month before I was able to drive by myself. I'm not wealthy though. I don't know if I would be keen on biking into the CBD. It's not really that safe to do so from my location.
