Before I never thought much of it since 2020 completely overshadowed that shift but when I think about it 2019 did a lot of work in setting the stage for the culture were in now and giving long-awaited closure to many 2010s or even 2000s cultural products. Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Lizzo as new pop stars. Dua Lipa completely revamped into a throwback artist. TikTok. Death of deep fried memes. Start of throwback pop. And you have a plethora of very popular/iconic series that were finished like Game of Thrones, Big Bang Theory, Avengers and Star Wars. You have some game franchises which finally got a sequel after over a decade of waiting like Devil May Cry 5 and Kingdom Hearts 3.
However, this shift isn't that big and 2020 is still obviously the bigger one. So I would say the transition from the 2010s to 2020s spanned from Summer 2019 - Spring 2021 although if I was forced to pick a year which shifted us over it would be 2020. If COVID didn't happen then 2019 would be a small shift into Early 20s culture like how 2013 was a small shift from the Early-Mid 10s.

Yes that's common sense in this forum, 2019 is commonly called "the fake early 2020s"

The next star wars movie is coming out in 2023. There's rumors of a new avengers movie, I think the superhero franchise is going strong if you look at all the previews of movies and series coming up.

As in the end of a saga like Marvel Phase 3 or the Skywalker Saga of Star Wars. There are still superhero movies coming out a lot but Avengers is easily the most popular so that being on a hiatus has noticeably changed the feel of pop culture.

I can see what is meant by it, but like I don't feel like that's transitional for me personally unless star wars as a whole is no longer being made. Star Wars Clone wars is the only thing that comes to mind, it ended in may 2020. Big bang has been around since the late 2000s, not sure it ending in 2017 or 2020 would have made a difference tbh...

2019 was setting up a 2020 that never happened.
But to be fair, 2020 was the result of the 2016 Presidential election, so this hellscape was inevitable the night a few thousand people in the Midwest decided it wasn't worth it to turn out to vote for Hillary.

From what I have seen from Marvel insiders, Tobey is getting a Spider-Man 4 and Andrew is getting Amazing Spider-Man 3, with the Tobey one coming out first. The Avengers movie will not have Tom's Spider-Man in it.

A lot of Core 10s things were ending in 2019 (EDM as a popular genre, Game of Thrones, Avengers, etc.), so the way I see 2019 is a Late 10s finale year that is just more unique than 2017 and 2018 (which were basically just 2016 parts 2 and 3 for the most part).
2019 is a standalone year because it doesn't really fit with either 2017/2018 or 2020/2021. If COVID hadn't happened 2019 would probably fit with the Early 2020s, but that just isn't the case now.
2019 had 2020 vision, but hindsight really is 2020.

My gut feeling is new superhero movies, at least a good bunch of them, will be an improvement from the 2010s, like an upgrade and just more quality.

Yeah. 2019 is sort of around 50/50 pop culturally(not politics) in between the late 10s and early 20s. A big reason why it still felt like the late 10s was trap rap being at its peak completely dominating the charts and also all those series that ended that year still having a season or movie or whatever even if they ended that year.

There seems to be a backlash against 2010s Marvel movies because chatter I see online " That is how you do a Spiderman movie" "ugh hate Tony Stark etc"

I’m beginning to think superhero films outside of the 80s-start of mid 00s in general we’re also good around 2008-2011 ex iron man, watchmen, the dark knight were a good and then hopefully from 2019 to the 2020s will be like massive upgrade like it’s already showing movies like joker and Spider-Man which massacre most typical 2010s films . Most of the 2010s will be seen as a cheesy era for annoying and pretentious corporate superhero movies.

Joker came out in 2019 and was mostly a hit in 2019 The first tom holland spider man movie came out in 2017 ffs And lets not forget into the spider-verse
