I'm talking about years that you got excited for and it was a let down or years that you did not care about and it was a great year for you.
Personally, it'd be: 2014 (I thought it'd be easy learning driving, but it was a long road till I got my license and was allowed to drive on my own.) 2016 (All the high school senior events were fun and so was graduation, but turning 18 wasn't all that. The election surprised me.) 2019 (I did not care for 2019 at first, but that's been the best year of my life thus far.) 2020 (I thought it would be exactly like late 2018 and 2019, but COVID fucked everything up. At least Donald Trump lost.)
Culturally, it'd be: 2008 exciting 2012 let-down 2015 let-down 2018 let-down 2019 exciting 2020 let-down

2020 was the ultimate surprise year, literally no one could've predicted covid Another one is 2016, specially late 16 2016 and 2020 are directly tied, in my opinion. Trump was elected in 2016, but the consequences of that didn't destroy everything until 2020. 2016 was the year the fuse was lit but it took until 2020 for the bomb to go off. Before 11/9/2016, the reality we are living in now would have been inconceivable.

I feel like some people associate all of 2016 with Q4, but most of the year was really good, especially Summer. Q1 just felt like late 2013-2015.

I remember people talking about 2016 being a cursed year, but the issues back then seem so trivial compared to now.

A lot of people would say they peaked during this period. Plus, it didn't lean mid or late 2010s, it's a very distinct period of its own.

Isn't it funny that both the late 00s and late 10s were the dark and cold eras of their respective decades

I remember laughing at so many Trump memes. I didn’t like him but I thought he was really entertaining. Let’s just say the entertainment factor got old really quick once things got serious.
