It did, but nobody knew it yet at the time. I don't remember anybody expecting ARTPOP to flop like it did. Even if it was a success i don't think people expected her to reclaim her 2008-2011 era glory with artpop. She dropped off the radar way too long to do that.

Even if it was a success i don't think people expected her to reclaim her 2008-2011 era glory with artpop. She dropped off the radar way too long to do that. I think a big part of the issue was how overhyped Born This Way was followed by poor single choices. Plus, her appearance with the meat dress seemed to be the point where she could no longer one-up herself and the public began to get fatigue.
