I'm not even sure if i should call it a shift, it's more like a slow trickling down of the late 10s vibe throughout the second half of the mid 10s. June 2015 onwards just slowly morphs from the mid 10s into the late 10s and it's hard to pinpoint where the dividing line is, although by Feb 2017 or Q2 2017 at a stretch you could safely say we had entered the late 10s.

Trump wasn't actually the president until January though. didn't matter the energy was already there, you could feel it the moment his face popped up on CNN as the winner, next day hell broke lose Yeah but his term didn't begin and Obama was still in the WH. That's why I never consider elections the actual shift like the 2008 one or the 2020 one, the inauguration is far more important since it's when you see them actually start in office.

What energy? You mean politically with everything becoming divisive and chaotic? It was that way in early 2016 as well, I remember people shitting on SJWs a lot then and then there was Brexit, the BLM protest and Gay nightclub shooting in the summer.

There was stuff in early mid 2016 but the era started in late 2016 when Trump got elected, even music was changing a little bit at that time as well. After Trump got elected in 2016 the c razy levels got to all time highs.

Even in 2017 it was still changing, you had latin pop take off starting with despacito in the summer. There was a massive shitshow after trump got elected but it leveled out like a month or two later.

Pop culture is always changing so you can't really pinpoint exact dates for everything. Objectively the late 10s started on September 1, 2016 even if Trump was elected a couple months later and inaugurated a couple months after that.
Objectively the 2020s started on January 1, 2020 even if COVID was declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
Some things might closely align to when these eras start but they happened during it, they're not the start of it.

Sometimes you can pinpoint seasons or years for pop culture changes that starts off a new era. It's just that the change from the mid to late 10s is very gradual and you had a noticeable buildup towards the late 10s before even 2016. >Objectively the 2020s started on January 1, 2020 even if COVID was declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020. That's chronological, when we discuss shifts we go by the cultural cutoffs.
