I can't believe how 2012 is now a decade old. Looking back it's mostly a continuation of late 2010-2011 culture but also incoming trends that define 2013-2014. Fashion is either twee hipster or colorful neon. Smartphones from 2012 are old and dated to use nowadays. The memes were classic and top tier. Games like Minecraft, COD, and Skyrim were at their prime. Electropop and EDM were heard everywhere and also indie pop. Rap was still transitioning into trap and even then it sounds barely like todays trap. The 2012 election was boring af. The politics weren't even that divisive compared to today, I prefer to live in that period than now.

People try to paint 2012 as a lot more old school than it was truly was, some of culture still feels like 3-5 years ago. It felt like refined version of 2011 and then a prototype of 2013-2014.

Well, most of 2012 culture is dated and not so new anymore. Not old school yet but you can't really call it recent.

What’s worse is that people on Reddit say how 2012 was a cultural 2000s year. 2012 doesn’t feel like a decade ago pop culturally, technology, transportation, gaming and societally. In terms of my personal life, 2012 feels like a decade or more ago.

2012 is a decade ago and was 10 years ago, but honestly does not feel that far away despite so much stuff changing between then and now.
It's weird because SO MUCH stuff changed since then but yet still does not feel far away lol

Pretty much every major technology experienced a rapid evolution in the 90s I mean, games went from 2d to 3d ffs, 2012-2022 cannot compare
