2010 by far. Without even getting into politics or current events, Millennial culture was still dominant and music wasn't as far removed from the early 2010s as people make it out to be.
Though I think the answer to this will differ for Gen Z compared to Millennials.

I'd say overall 2010 but if we omit COVID from the discussion, I would say 2022. 2015/2016 is where political divisions started growing out of hand and the music feels a lot different than 2010, 2010s had lots of 00s holdovers musically and in other areas. It was also 7th gen gaming, pre smartphone normalization and ubiquity, pre smartphone social media era(instagram, snapchat, vine, kik, etc), pre flat design, etc. Early 20s pop culturally isn't too detached from 2016.

From my memory, music in 2010 was mostly early '10s. There were a few '00s holdovers that year like September by Daughtry, but '09 was the year that bridged the two decades musically. I remember when I heard this song for the first time in February 2010 thinking it was where music was headed. It sounded so futuristic back then. That was also right at the best time of my life, so it's deeply nostalgic.

That was also right at the best time of my life, so it's deeply nostalgic. I remember it well. There were lots of 00s holdovers in the first half: The first half of 2010 is about 50/50 late 00s and early 10s musically. The overall year is mainly early 10s though since around summer that's when late 00s sounding music became very scarce. Timbaland, Black Eyed Peas and Nelly Furtado were gone by then which contributed to it.

Kelis Accapella - Don't remember this one. Don't think it was played on the radio in my area The Pussycat Dolls - Don't remember this one either Timbaland - Carry Out: sounds like it could have been late 2009 but no earlier Adam Lambert - Whaddya Want From Me: Yeah, this one sounds '00s Flo Rida - Jump: Sounds late '00s. No earlier than 2008 though.

I voted 2022. Let's throw COVID away. Let's just look at pop culture and technology. If we do, we'll find 2016 to be closer to 2022. It was when everybody had a smartphone, social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter were popular, social media and the internet were toxic and filled with divisive politics. FFS you STILL hear people talking about Trump now even though he's not president anymore. The whole Ukraine shit we're dealing with is linked to stuff that started in 2014. Also, Netflix had original shows, and trap music was popular.
