It was a weird one off trend that no one saw coming. 2010s fads are usually either corny memes spread on the internet but you have people spinning a disc instead. It seems much more remniscent of the 90s and 00s. I could see it being a fad in those decades, maybe the early 10s as well and not seeming random.

Did the 2000s have a fad toy like the 80s, 90s and 10s? I don't think they did. Not in the same level as the Rubik's cube (80s), slinky/tamagotchi (90s) and the fidget spinner (10s)

...and since it was 2017 ofc you had a bunch of edgy memey 13 year olds making fun of kids who played with them.

To me, it doesn't feel exactly out of place considering the emphasis and massive awareness of mental health in the past decade (even though fidget spinners don't exactly help with disorders such as ADHD). But with the rise of YouTube product videos and social media memes, it spread like wildfire for a month for so.

No doubt fidget spinners were the weirdest fad toys since the pet rock Think about it... They look weird, move weird, do nothing other than spin and you can't really "play with them" like with traditional toys... And yet they were the biggest toy fad of the last 20 years
