2000. It was essentially 1999 part 2 with boy bands (NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, etc), the reign of Britney Spears with Christina Aguilera being in a close second, and the genres of teen pop, Latin pop (Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin), and R&B still being massive overall. There was the introduction of the PS2, but it didn't have strict competition until late 2001, and the Dreamcast would be discontinued early that year as well due to a huge decline in sales. Clinton was still in office despite being a lame duck and a controversial election with Bush vs. Gore. It was firmly Y2K. I love everything about 1999 and 2000. The Y2K era was darn near perfect imo. Not true lol, it got really bad towards the end popedia.boards.net/thread/6118/name-fall-2000-2001-corporate

Social media was used all the way back in 2004 with myspace. Became common like 2005-2006. Smartphones still weren't mainstream yet until 2011 and there were a lot of feature phones and still some flip phones. 1080p HD wasn't the standard until then besides movies. The smartphone called Blackberry pearl was very mainstream in 2006, so much that Steve Jobs brang it up in his iphone speech That hardly even counts. It isn't the same thing as smartphones as we know them today like the Iphone. The smartphones which were basically almost the same as the ones we used today got popular in 2011.

Blackberry pearl is still a smartphone, it does count. In 2009 I started seeing the iphone more out in about in LA actually, co existing with flip phones. 2010/2011 is when the big cross over was pretty much finished and everyone had one.

Not the same thing, you're just hinging off a technicality at this point And the big crossover of 2010/2011 is the turning point. 2011 is when it became the norm even if they started to be noticed in public in 2009.

One popular smartphone in 2006 was called Blackberry Pearl.>Not arguing how blackberry pearl functions like a smartphone but rather just hinges on the technicality of it being called one back in 2007 when the concept of what a smartphone was was still fluid >Repeating the same fallacious arguments over and over again even when I explain why it's wrong. No counterarguments at all. >Bold text Get off the shrooms and we'll talk later

Okay. I can understand if we're talking about the 2000-2001 season. That seemed like the calm before the storm I guess.

Blackberry Pearl looks like a feature phone to me.. but I guess from 2006-2011 or so feature phones were also looked at as smartphones.

Always fighting about Pop Punk and Blackberries lol. Only because he keeps taking statements out of context and then repeating the same fallacious points over and over even after I debunk it.

That's what i've tried explaining to him but in 2022 he still insists on it being a smartphone despite the fact that the concept of what a smartphone is has changed since 2006.
