There might be differences between 2019 and 2022 but there are still a lot of similarities besides Covid and Biden. Its funny how some people say 2009 and 2012 are still connected but then go on to say feel 2019 is completely disconnected from today.
-The political divisions and ideas are mostly the same as today -First full year of AirPod popularity -First full year of Tiktok popularity -Culturally zoomer -Game Of Thrones ended -Marvel Avengers era ended. -Second wave retro pop started in late 2019 with Dua Lipa and The Weeknd. -Minecraft comeback -Zoomer slang like simp and Karen still used today. -Rappers who blew up in 2019 are still popular today.

It's not completely detached, but it's also not yesterday like some people here think. IMO it's kinda like 2000 vs 2003 (9/11 = COVID in this comparison).
2001 and 2020 were both huge shifts but that doesn't mean there's a 100% disconnect before and after.

Pandemic or no pandemic, it's way too recent chronologically to feel like another world. There's also the fact that pop culture isn't that different(2019 is the beginning of the current pop culture era). Not saying that takes priority over COVID and politics but it still counts.

People are blinded by COVID starting a completely different era pop-culturally from 2019. I still see 2019 as the same as today, COVID and Biden aside.

I get the feeling most people who say there's been no changes live their entire lives online and their entire social lives are on Discord. Maybe they are young enough to not have jobs/careers yet and were not effected by the economic crash. If that was your life in 2019 then yes, maybe it does feel like yesterday.

I think separating the lenses of politics and culture are important when comparing years like these. Yes we are still within a wave of restrictions and a decrease in movement; things we weren't imagining in 2019. The aspect of how we do things, this has for sure changed. Culturally however, if anything this has all delayed progression. When we remove what has transformed, what we are left with still quite strongly resembles what we had before. In 2019, 2010's culture was getting stale, and many of the new trends coming in that year are what we have seen become mainstream for the last two. It makes sense in an impaired position to push forward with what had been started, rather than play around too much in a time of uncertainty. If one is too focused on new political developments to be able to see the culture taking place behind them, then perhaps it's time to take a step back. Life is going on, even if we're slowly picking up shattered pieces.
