Everyone was playing fortnite, many teens were listening to soundcloud rap and virtually everyone was watching avengers in the late 10s. These are just a few examples. There are examples for the early 20s but not as many but still many people saw the new spiderman movie and retro pop is the big new thing everyone is listening to.

Special mention to Tiger King in 2020. Yup. People said it died back in the late 00s/early 10s but late 10s had some of the biggest forces of monoculture ever in soundcloud rap, avengers, game of thrones and fortnite. Probably bigger monoculture than there was in the mid-late 00s actually. Back then you had everything divided into cliques like emo, skater, jock etc with different tastes.

No shows from the 2000s come close to how huge they were besides reality shows, which were just replaced by social media in the 10s.

The 2010s had bigger shows and movies whereas with the 2000s there was less big followings i think. Pop culture in the 2010s seems more centralized because theres so many big followings or fads. Gangnam Style, Harlem Shake, What does the fox say, Ice Bucket Challenge, Cup challenge, Tide pod challenge, Fortnite, Mumble rap, Pokemon GO, Avengers, GOT, etc. The core 00s(2004-first half of 2008) was more fragmented pop culturally because of the different cliques. You can't name half as many iconic pop culture events in the core 00s than the core 10s(and I think it's better that way).

For example you have avengers endgame which completely blows away box office for any film of the 2000s. The biggest box office film came out right as the very very VERY tip of the tail end of the 2000s(avatar) just as the 2010s were about to start and even that pales in comparison to endgames numbers.

Yes they were, they were even bigger actually, you would know that if you had memories of 2000,2001,2002,2003 and 2004 which you don't. Even the 90s had bigger monoculture then the 2010s. Endgame broke records and is an abnormality. The Marvel cinematic universe was huge in the 2010s but several movies from the 2000s and 90s beat it. Avatar I will give you that I guess, but that came out in 2009 and had a little bit of spill in early 2010, mostly due to 3D glasses, no one talks about that movie anymore.

Facts don't care about your feelings or your memories.

The 2000s has more shows than the 2010s that became monoculture hits, they may not be all DRAMAS but they were hits.

Going objectively by box office numbers avengers has vastly bigger numbers than any 2000s movie put out. Facts don't care about your feelings or your memories. movies aren't 100% of the culture In general 2010s had bigger fad followings like social media challenges, fortnite, soundcloud rap, fidget spinners, pokemon go, gangnam style, harlem shake, etc. 2000s followings dont compare in scale at all. And i'm being objective since I hate the 10s and love the 00s. I fucking hate having to make it sound like i'm shilling for the 2010s and bashing on the 2000s even though i'm not. I think the 00s being less pop culturally monolithic is better in fact.

The Macarana in 1996 was 100000000X bigger than any of those stupid fads you listed, just because something is not online does not make it less popular.
