Personally I think it did around 2013. That's when social media became really fragmented and everywhere rather than there just being THE social media site in facebook. Youtube merged with google + and content became less creative, cringe screamer gamers like pewdiepie started dominating. Oldschool memes died down in popularity. Flash games and online RPGs were pretty much on their last legs. Censorship. Ads. Flat design started getting big here I think as well. Everything started feeling watered down around 2013 and then it went turbo-shit mode around 2016.

2016 but TikTok saved it a bit in 2019.
2016-most of 2018 internet felt like an edginess competition.

It started to decline in 2013 when edgebait shitposting and terrible 4chan humor starting to seep into general internet consciousness, went to hell in 2014 when political turmoil added itself to the mix and bottomed completely out in 2016 when all those things pretty much peaked.
Dishonourable mention to 2020 when Gen Z angst and suicide jokes were a sudden dominant presence.

The early 10s was the last unfiltered times on the internet then censorship started coming in.

I'm mostly referring to the inexplicably absurd, shockvalue dank humor that was definitely a dominant force around that time. I mean by 2015 4chan culture had literally infiltrated internet culture at large with Pepe the Frog being every freaking where. The early 2010s internet had a very chatroom style casualness to it with humor being mostly random and kind of lowbrow, but nowhere near as punchy and cynical as later.

That edgy era happened in 2015 and 2016 i think. After leafy stopped making videos things got less edgier.

Even popular people like Pewdiepie adopted some of the edginess from that site in 2017-2018.
