The thing is just because there are some things left around does not mean it feels the same lol For example in 1999 you still had people out of date wearing flannel here and there, you still had Full House in reruns, still had MMPR season 1-3 in reruns on Fox Kids ( Power Playback) but that does not mean it was part of the zeitgeist anymore. Even stores that were still around in early 2009 such as KB toys and Circuit City, they fell off massively in the late 2000s. 2009 felt vastly different than 2003,2004,2005 and 2006, there is no way to really shoe horn this year in, sometimes a year can feel a little bit of both eras. 2009 can not be shoe horned in at all, well not unless you are trying to lump 2009 with the "2000s experience" which it does not fit at all. It's kind of like saying did 1930s feel like 1980's or 2001 ? Like these kind of topics can veer of in any direction because of how directionless they can become. Does my smoothie shake taste more like Red Bull or a milk shake ? Does my car looks more like a 747 plane or a Ford ? Is Atari closer to Game boy or NES. It just becomes ridiculous at some point. I'm not talking about those years. I'm talking about late 2006, 2007, 2008. The years considered to be part of the late 00s era. From what I recall the first quarter of 2009 didn't feel drastically different from recent years. it felt different enough from 2006 2007 and 2008, even the part of 2009 that is more "canon" to the late 2000s early 2009 still feels removed. Which is funny because late 2006, 2007 and most of 2008 felt pretty unified. Also keep in mind Q4 2006 felt a mix of mid 2000s and late 2000s. That school year was a hybrid year. 06-07 year did not feel anything like the 08-09 year, 2009 kind of stands on it's own dystopian vibe.

Even with obama's inauguration it still felt more 00s than 10s to me. It still had that edgy 2000s feeling with mostly late 00s pop culture/tech and the recession at it's peak(everyone was so on edge back then).

Lets looks at what classic 2000s, and for that matter late 2000s tv shows that were over by the time we got to 2009. - The Sopranos canceled 2007- TRL canceled 2008- Toonami canceled 2008- King of Queens canceled 2007- Thats so Raven canceled 2007- Zoey 101 canceled 2008- The OC canceled 2007 - Miguzi canceled 2007 - JETIX on abc family canceled 2006The 2000s vibe was pretty much gone in 2009, didn't feel like the 2000s at all, still having some of the tech didn't make the vibe continue.

I hate to sound like a broken record but it's because you don't have vivid memories of what the 2000s were like before 2005, so anything after 2006 to you feels like how the 2000s should be. That is all you know it to be & can only go by youtube videos and wikipedia for reference.

I really don't know why you keep bringing up 2005 and before i'm talking about how 2009 felt in relation to the late 00s. I remember it feeling much more like the rest of the numerical late 00s than early 10s.

So you are basically left with a empty shell year.
