Second half of 2003 through the first half of 2004 with Cartoon Network Powerhouse Era, 1990s shows like Friends and Seinfield beginning their death throes. Numetal dying and mid 2000s emo slowly taking over.
2009 with 2000s staple shows and stores mostly dead.

Summer 2009 Spring 2020 Summer 1998 Spring 2004 Funny how 1998 and 2009 share the same calendar. 98 was a really boring summer, I wanted to throw my Nintendo 64 out the window had it not been for Banjo Kazooie

You also hated 2015 which also shares the same calendar as 1998 and 2009. I found summers 2009 and 2015 boring. all 3 of those were boring yupp, 1998 just had this............."the 90s are over" kinda vibe if that makes sense

I think 1998 was the blandest year of the 90s. Early 98 was part 2 of late 97 but not as good, mid into late 98 was a prototype/warm up version of 1999. But the summer felt like something was missing, like peak bland 90s, and it was kind of confused and empty, it wasn’t enough of anything, even though it was the last time to strongly have almost have the exact atmospheric vibe of latter 1997 even though it was getting increasingly closer to 1999 vibes. It had this slow and dull, boring vibe to it.

Honestly I’m thinking about it, if the 2020s later on wants to embrace this era and make all the bad, corny and corporate stuff cool or make it seem like it wasn’t that bad, I’m definitely not going to be okay with it.

I know exactly what u mean, 1998 just had this bland feeling, its hard to describe, like you are playing golf or something and the sun is blaring on the course and you are squinting and you look @ your watch and you have 7 hours to kill, that is the vibe 1998 gave off. A ton of weird as* sh*t happened that summer such as Family Matters airing it's final episodes in the SUMMER without warning on CBS, the video games that came out really bored me, aside from Banjo Kazooie which was a Donkey Kong Country spin off, literally the only reason I bought the game.

2010 gives this vibe to me, for some weird reason. Movie franchises like Shrek and Toy Story wrapped up (at least, for a long time anyways), Cartoon Network changed it's logo, MySpace was all but dead, rock music was no longer relevant in the mainstream, etc.

1987-1988: A mediocre late 80s period that can’t decide between mid 80s and late 80s, until around mid 88, hasn’t established enough distinct late 80s and or that much of any incoming 90s culture, kid culture is mix between mid and late, and gets improved in late 88-89
Winter 1993/start of 94 - A good portion but not all of late 80s/early 90s culture is on its last legs or is dated. starting to feel dated mid 90s culture hasn’t entirely come full circle yet.
First half of 1997 - Lots of latter mid 90s culture is on life support or fading, lots of new late 90s changes are there but don’t feel drastic enough.
Summer 1998 - Atmosphere of 1997 with increasing incoming culture of 1999 but nothing enough to make it stick out. Peak boring 90s.
Late 1999-early 2000: The Y2K mythology gets shattered and utterly sucks due excitement being over and feeling bland. The cheery vibes and some of classic 90s holdovers in first half of 99 ex. summer, are less or gone , and there hints/aspects of the 2000-2001 school year there.
2000-2001: Peak fake and watered down version of years prior with elements of early 2000s but not there yet.
2003-2004: The most watered down early 2000s year not enough mid 2000s culture.
2006-2007: Mid 2000s aren’t over and late 2000s aren’t complete enough.
2009: Peak boring 2000s and end of the era.
2010-2012: Weren’t as exciting as they are made out to be, felt like slow modifications of late 2009 and a build up towards the mid 2010s.
2015: Fakest 2010s year.
2018-2019: Cut down of core culture and some changes but not enough new.
2019-early 2020: A repeat nothing burger of the previous with even less core culture.
Most of 2020 to early 2022: A repeat nothing burger of the previous years with Covid but minor aesthetic and decade pop cultural identity changes across late 20 to late 21, but peak boring, and enough dynamics to keep culture less innovative and frozen until proven otherwise.

Honestly, I just feel like 2017-2022 has been this big long era of mediocrity. To me it's the polar opposite of 1997-2002 which was exciting and truly progressive. Maybe it's just because of the political climate but I am not a fan of the late 2010s or the early 2020s.

I still have that VHS for banjo Kazooie, did you get it? I think I got it in the spring of 1998 from nintendo power or a game store, it was preview of the game, that was what they did in this era before internet took over lol, the problem with these N64 games from this time, they were either too easy, you would finish it in 2-3 weeks or less unless you never played games, or you would need to cheat, which is why they made so many guide books, thats why multiplayer games were so successful . I remember spending like 5 months trying to beat Zelda on the super Nintendo in 1993, and I never finished Donkey Kong Country 2. They were designed to last for a while.

I forget tbh, I know I got the Nintendo 64 launch one in Summer 96, but unsure if they sent me a Banjo one in 98. N64 for the most part for me were games I rented as they were beat in 1 week or less, cough Yoshi's Island 64. I had been privy to who Banjo was due to Diddy Kong Racing in 97, so I jumped at the chance to play the spin off of one of my favorite franchises ever. I think Banjo was an amazing game. Those snes games took forever to beat I agree.
