Worsened (Just when I think things can’t suck more than they already are and then they suck more lol.) 2009 was a fucking shitty ass year. Almost nothing redeemable asides Obama and maybe some movies. TV, music, design trends and fashion sucked.
2013-2017 was when 2010s culture was at their most obnoxious and annoying stage.
2020 from potential war rumors to Kobe and his daughter’s place crash death to COVID to police killing George Floyd to another crazy election. Wow. I didn’t think I was going to survive this year, but I’m glad I did. Even if a democrat got elected, I still didn’t feel an ounce of 2008’s progressive energy.
Improved (Just when I think things can’t get better than they already are and then they get better.) 2002 kicked ass from start to finish, but the year just kept getting better and better. 2002 fully delivered and is still my favorite 2000s year. I love every part of 2002 equally. This year I kept thinking “Pop culture is too awesome to be true. They can’t get better than this, right?” 2002 kept surpassing my expectations and pushing the envelope.
2004 started off slow and dull, but then turned out to be fast and exciting.
2008 (See 2004, but 2008 is still better than 2007 and 2009.)
2010 was mostly boring like 2009, but the late part was slightly more exciting because it was closer to 2011.
2011 was another one of those years, pretty rare in the 2010s, that kept improving.
2018 and 2019 for personal reasons. Oddly enough, these years weren’t as intense as 2016 and 2017. Less core 2010s culture (thank goodness).

2021 started off as a somewhat optimistic year and then slowly became shit as time went on January 2021 was still part of the 2020 shitstorm, optimistic at first but then January 6th happened. Spring and Summer 2021 were optimistic, but Fall just felt dreary. 2021 really just felt like a filler year, maybe to control things for 2022. People were optimistic that Trump was out and we thought the vaccine was gonna end the pandemic

1997 BETTER - The Y2K was in effect, frosted tips in, Playstation the #1 console, Teen pop all over the radio, it felt like a breath of fresh air
1998 BETTER (but not by much ) - So damn boring, slow, core 90s things pretty much gone, a dead zone year, however things did pick up a tiny bit when Pokemon came on the scene
2001 BETTER - aside from 9/11 the year got better as it went on, total 180 feeling by the end of the year ( we all know why)
2002 WORSE - My favorite year of the 2000s, I know you prob think I am crazy... But the years pop culture felt downgraded as Q3 came in ( not that it was bad, just not up to par with the first half)
2004 BETTER - The year started off very slow and boring, as soon as we hit Q3 and Q4 it picks up at a RAPID PACE, like very fast and literally saved the year lol
2011 BETTER - This year was kind of exciting with many twists and turns, it actually got better as every month went by
2015 BETTER - I hate this damn year so much, fake and too much hipster crap, but it did seem to ease up by Q4, esp with Star Wars a force awakens
2020 BETTER - years started off with Covid arriving but by the end of the year things got a tiny bit better and Donald Trump lost the election to Biden

Is that because signs of the fake mid 2000s came in Q3 2002? 2015 got better for me personally as I began my senior year of high school that fall. Q4 2015 was a sneak preview of 2016's craziness. I see why you said 2020 got better because of Trump's loss, so there was a tiny glimmer of hope. Late 2002 for tv got a little bit dumb and music felt a lil bit watered down but it was still good, also Wrestling fell off HARDDD lol I went to an event and the upper deck was tarped off

Disney was trying to phase out of their Zoog era. Fox Kids also got discontinued and replaced with FoxBox. Lol that sucks for wrestling. I’m sure wrestling at that time must’ve been a different world compared to say 1999. I think American Idol blew up in popularity. Yeah it wasn't so much as late 2002 was bad, it just was not up to par as the earlier part of the year, but still fun and exciting and still the best 2000s year period. I HATED when FOX BOX replaced Fox kids, they even showed the logo of Fox Kids blowing up when it got replaced. The Rock left WWE for a bit after Summer 2002 so there was a huge void, Stone Cold left for almost a year as well. Luckily Shawn Michaels came back ( after being out for 4 years) during the time they were away. American Idol was HUGE, everyone was talking about it.

Early 2002 set a high standard in pop culture and late 2002 didn't quite live up to it. Fox Kids must've been an iconic 1990s staple as it debuted in September 1990, the year of the horse, only to end in September 2002, another year of the horse. Ames also went out of business in late 2002. 2002 seemed like the year of wrestling hiatuses. A few years ago, I watched terrible audition clips from the 2002 American Idol which were hilarious. The fashion screamed early 2000s, especially what the female contestants were wearing. I was there the last day of Ames, that sh*t was so funny, they had Game Gear overstock from the 90s randomly showing up, stole a bunch of sh*t from them that day LOL Also broke a few toys lol

Yes, honestly I think its good we are just brutally honest about late 2002, it was better than any point in 2003 but loses points for being a bit closer and have some 03 signs, its definitely not in the same league as the rest of 2002 for sure but its not bad, its still miles ahead of any other period then. Things that I wasn't a fan of in late 2002: - Some chicks wearing spiked collar wrist armbanks and black nail polish or gothy jewelery for like two months just to be cool and then going back to being cookie cutter - Good charlotte getting popular they weren't a genuine pop punk band, mispresenting that style - Nu metal being closer to its lowest point - Bleached jeans, trucker hats and aviator glasses as a style starting to show up even if in very early stages of popularity - Hip Hop feeling overplayed for the time ex. nelly, sean paul, snoop dogg, ludacris, and r kelly being overplayed

At least Good Charlotte sounds more genuine.
