I’m confused as to how to answer this question.
I think the New Jack Swing Era could be either seen as a transitional era between the 1980s and 1990s or it could encompass the late 1980s and early 1990s. Again I’m unsure, so if anyone can clarify this, I’d appreciate it.
Personally I like New Jack Swing music. I’ve listened to some late 1980s music and early 1990s music. I could definitely hear the New Jack Swing influences. If I had to guess the timeline of New Jack Swing, it would be from sometime in 1988 to sometime in 1994, with earliest traces going to between late 1984-1986 and last gasps between late 1994-1996.

There could be elements from 1984, but this supposedly is the first proper new jack swing song ever from 1985. Janet Jackson's Control from early 1986 is full of elements and songs: Other new jack swing songs of 1986, the genre was established, it was already a thing then with a number of hits: Mid 1987 below : (Youtube title and name is wrong, ignore it) Late 1987 into 1988 its super mainstream with bobby brown a host of others.
