Not to say this makes it bad but it the mid 10s didn't have much of an identity, it just felt like a generic experimental era between the more clearly defined early 10s and late 10s. The music was all over the place you had a lot of generic bread and butter pop, some trumpets, some EDM, some ballads, a bit of retro pop, etc. Gaming wasn't fully 7th gen like it was in the early 10s or fully 8th gen like the late 10s, it was a crossing over period albeit leaning more towards 8th gen. There weren't any distinct trends in movies unlike say the late 10s with superhero movies everywhere, fashion was bland and even the hipster trend that peaked here was just plaguarizing older decades. Memes were in an experimental phase as oldschool rage comic, bottom text and the like weren't popular anymore but the weirder meme formats that personify the late 10s hadn't been established yet.

Disagree. Just take a look at Vine and music videos from the mid 10s
There's a clear identity that differentiates them from the early and late 10s

Disagree. Just take a look at Vine and music videos from the mid 10s There's a clear identity that differentiates them from the early and late 10s You have a point about Vine but even that isn't that unique anymore since TikTok is basically the same thing. There's always going to be a few things that are exclusive to an era but looking from a broad perspective it just feels like an experimental mishmash era without strong distinct traits which make it stand out. What is the mid 10s identity? When I think of the early 10s, I visualise loud electropop club music, facebook, 7th gen gaming, early smartphones, rage comic and top/bottom text memes. When I think of the late 10s, I think of trap/soundcloud rap, donald trump, 8th gen gaming, deep fried and post irony memes, fortnite. Mid 10s feels like a generic blur.

Comparing Vine to TikTok is like comparing MySpace to Facebook or MSN to Whatsapp Yes, they serve similar purposes but they have different CULTURE, ATMOSPHERE, AESTHETICS and FEATURES. Vine was never as toxic and polarizing as TikTok, it didn't have an eboy/egirl-like subculture, vines were only 6 seconds long, weren't as "fancy" as tiktok videos and had different humor from TikToks. Just compare the Vine Stars like Zack King, Lele Pons, King Bach, Jacob Sartorius, the Paul brothers to TikTok stars like Charlie D'amelio, Khaby Lame, Bella Poarch.... Not the same thing at all. Vine and tiktok are NOT the same thing. Freaking YouTube isn't the same as it used to be back in 2015, and YouTube is just one social media... Vine and TikTok are two different things made by different people in different time periods. When i visualize the mid 10s i think of washed-out colors, pop songs with horn drops, Tumblr aesthetic of 2013-2015 (Tumblr was at it's cultural peak during this time), Vine stars, Ariana's debut era, pastel colors, anti-skinny women songs like "Anaconda" and "All about that bass". Yes, the mid 10s have a less defined culture but it's still there.

The early 10s was when nicki minaj rose to fame for example. The actual music of the time lacked an identity. You could say EDM was common but the early 10s and late 10s had lots of EDM as well.

Hipster in the mid 10s is just emulating the 50s or 60s anyway so there isn't much original about it.

In the early 2000s you had vice City, Vh1 changing their whole network to be 80s centric, 80s samples in songs, everything borrows from something, just because stuff is borrowed does not mean it does not have identity. Literally in 2002 and 2003 ( the early stages of the 2000s, you already had 80s throwbacks)
