I think the 50s through the 90s was the most well respected and wealthiest (in terms of middle class) that the United States is going to be, and we are living in its downfall. Unless something drastic changes in the years to come and we take down the elite French Revolution style. Thoughts about this?

The 70s were crap for the US economy and living standards, specially if you lived in a big city

Nope, the 60s were an incredibly unstable time for US politics. The 70s saw a big slump in US economy with the oil crisis. And the 80s were a pretty bad time for urban decay and criminality. Even the 50s had the Cold War paranoia at its peak and the 90s had growing racial tensions.

In an economic and world power sense, the peak was definitely the 1940s & 50s.
