This year was a cultural bomb for the 2010s. Most of the popular decade's trends were around in 2017 like fidget toys, Nintendo Switch, Pokemon Go, EDM, GoT, etc. Not to mention this was the year of the solar eclipse.

I found 2017 overrated. 2017 imo was the worst and most boring year out of the 2010s. 2017 felt like a mourning year with Donald Trump's inauguration, his stupid antics, all the shitty music, movies and TV. I find nothing to like or appreciate about 2017. I found 2018 better than 2017, even though most of 2018 sucked. Late 2018 saves 2018 for me. Even 2016 was better than 2017. I take any year from 2019 to present over 2017, despite COVID.

Agreed, people in this forum will circlejerk about how "bad" 2017 was (they already started circlejerking in this thread) but it was very iconic for the pop culture No doubt it will be a very cherished in the future Honestly, the entirety of the late 10s, minus 2018, were underrated. I don't know how someone could claim that 2017 was overrated tbh, it gets too much hate If anything 2017 was overHated

Soon we'll be reevaluating 2017 as an iconic year like 2016

2017 deserves the hate. In fact 2017 doesn’t get as much hate as it should. Some people on here claim 2017 to be better than 2016 pop culturally, which I fully disagree with. I’m waiting for 2017 culture to get the backlash it deserves. Unfortunately some 2017 culture is still around or relevant or influences 2022 culture. I don’t know why I still sense cultural ties to 2017. I hope that becomes obselete, cheugy, cringe, embarrassing and hated by sometime in 2023 or 2024.
I remember 2004 being overhated by a lot of 1990s kids claiming the world ended on January 1, 2004. Lol what a bunch of gatekeepers and those same idiots want to claim the early 2000s as a part of the 1990s. Give me a break lmao. 2004 doesn’t deserve the hate because of stupid, overrated and boring 1990s shows like Friends and Frasier ending. My mom could care less at the time. She switched the channel to a kid’s channel lol when their finales came on. Cartoon Network Powerhouse era ending sucked, but the wheels in motion were already in set by 2003, maybe even by late 2002.
2016 seems to be an overhated year. 2016 has perks like Obama still being president. The music charts seemed more diverse with different genres charting compared to boring trap from 2017 and 2018. From January through early November 2016, were still optimistic that Trump would lose and we’d finally get a woman president. Honestly 2015 should be responsible for bringing in Trump into the political world in the first place.

I think the hate against 2016 is based on celebrity deaths, natural disasters, Pulse Nightclub Shooting, Trump winning the election. A lot of these are lame excuses imo because celebrity deaths, natural disasters, shootings, tragedies happen every year. I recall people were still optimistic in November and December 2016 that the election results would change. Trump didn't take office until 2017.

I definitely think 2017 receives too much hate on the forum. I think 2017 was a pretty strong year in terms of the pop culture, you had a lot of trends that year like fidget spinners, Nintendo switch, despacito etc which made it stand out. To be fair the music was probably below average though, well actually Jan-August was decent but late 2017 was just awful in terms of music.
In terms of world events/politics it was just another crazy year although a bit more toned down from 2016 imo.

And they're all still pretty popular today, especially Kodak and Lil Uzi.

The first half of 2017 were decent personally. The rest I just wanna forget and throw it in the trash. I also didn’t like the pop culture in 2017. Safe to say that 2017 looks different from today.

If I had to choose which half of 2017 I prefer, it’d be the first half. The second half was horrendous. 2017 is the last year that could not totally pass for today.
