There must be a larger demographic of transgenders up in Canada. I don’t see the US having gender neutral bathrooms anytime soon. I just don't think there is enough transgenders to really make it a huge problem. I mean, aren't they like only 0.6% of the US population? The vast majority of us are ok with sex segregated bathrooms, and I want to keep it that way. I'll admit, I think my opinion about transgenders in the unpopular opinion thread was a bit of a stretch. It really should be up to the transgender IMO. My feelings are still mixed though. Well Canada is more progressive. Same sex marriage was legalized in 2005. The United States didn't legalize same sex marriage until 2015. So maybe we’ll follow the trend of gender neutral bathrooms in 2029 like we did with same sex marriage.

See, stuff like gender neutral bathrooms is why I feel like I'm a little more conservative. I don't want things to be way too progressive. If I'm being completely honest, I really think gender neutral bathrooms are for the most part unnecessary, and barely anyone has a problem with the traditional sex-segregated bathrooms. I don't think I'd like it if gender neutral bathrooms became the norm.

It took until 2005 to legalize it nationwide, but most the country had legalized it already at the provincial level in 2003. Let me tell you as someone who grew up in the early 2000s that there was a huge opposition to gay marriage even in liberal circles. People thought the traditional family unit would collapse if gay marriage were to go through and everyone would turn gay (which was a terrible thing back then). But back in reality people moved on with their lives and the world kept spinning. It's the same with transgender people. There is a huge moral panic that kids will want to be transgender, men will start dressing like women and women like men (the horror), and that traditional gender roles will go away and perverted men will pretend to be women to rape them. In reality.... not much has changed. The sun still rises, the birds still chirp, and life moves on and people carry on as they usually do. I think people in 10-30 years time will not care at all about transgender issues, and think we were crazy today for making such a huge deal out of it.
