- Pokemon Go - Fidget Spinners - Avengers - Game of thrones - Fortnite - Mumble rap
People say monoculture died in the 00s or 10s because of the internet but this isn't true when late 10s had such a dominant monoculture with all of these global insane popular trends. I would even say that the internet and social media is a catalyst for monoculture.

Don't forget trap music seeping into every facet of pop music That kinda falls under the "mumble rap" banner but yeah. Trap had a very consistent dominance in the late 10s.

I made a thread earlier that the late 2010s was a very conventional era. There was also a strong aura of conformism. I remember Twitter in 2018, everyone was obsessing over things like Avengers Infinity War, Spider-Man, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, etc. You'd expect that because we have the internet, there would be far more individuality and fragmentation, but that's not necessarily the case. In fact, I think internet culture in the late 2000s and early 2010s was more fragmented than the echo chamber and cancel culture dominant society of modern internet culture.

I don't think it was a conformist era(as in you're ostracized if you don't conform to the trends) but it was still a very monoculture-centric era. Probably the most of the entire 21st century tbqh. Late 00s and Early 10s culture was indeed more fragmented.

Strong "you're either with us or against us" mentality on both sides. If you don't agree with everything Trump says, you're a SJW, the right will say, and if you don't agree with everything the left-wing media says, you're a Trump supporter/racist, the left will say. Not participating in trends didn't make you ostracized, but at the same time, there was still a degree of pressure to conform.

Well yeah, politically it was very tribal like and this has continued onto current times. You're either hitler or a snowflake nowadays. But for everything els elike pop culture i dont think there was much pressure to conform. In fact in some cases conforming was uncool like with fortnite. At worst you'd seem like a wet towel or something idk. It's not like the mid 00s where you would be called gay and bullied if you didnt like masculine things.
